There is also the notable point that Russia will throw men at the problem. They cannot lose Bakhmut after building it up as the holy grail city for a year. This opens up opportunities for Ukraine to force Russia into dilemmas.
Im sure Ukraine is counting on it. They have clocked that Russian military strategy is guided by Putin’ ego.
