I’ve never made a splash screen, but for other KDE visual mods I like to pick a simple one off their web listing thing in the plasma settings and then just read the source to figure out the basics.
I’m not american and my culture has no history of stockpiling weapons to fantasize about using them when the government takes our rights, so don’t try to paint me as a hypocrite for calling this out as an outside observer.
Also, please show me where I even implied people should shoot at local cops or turn protests violent? If there was any advocation of violence in my comment (for legal purposes this is an if) it had one clear target, and wasn’t specifically addressed to leftists. I don’t blame you for wanting reasons to write off what I said, cuz I can’t imagine being american right now - not a figure of speech, I literally cannot and I feel for you dudes - but please don’t resort to strawman and false equivalency fallacies to do it.
The fact that every american in a nation with more guns than people seems totally willing to let this fascist keep destroying the balance of power their whole country was founded on is honesty pathetic, and I lose respect for them every day it goes on. What the fuck was the right to bear arms in that dusty old paper even for, if not this?
This is super exciting, sddm works fine but this sounds like it’ll address all the little small problems I had with it. Other than proton games, sddm was the only reason I even had an x server installed on my pc and I can’t wait to ditch it for pure Wayland
Why the dkms version on arch? iirc the wiki recommends not using it, and from personal experience I’d take the pacman version over dkms any day. If there’s any compatibility differences I’m not aware of them, and ime the stability is way better with the pacman version (tho I’ve never used the same driver versions on both, so take that with a grain of salt). I’d bet nouveau is way more likely to solve your issue, but if you want to keep native performance too maybe try nvidia-open rather than dkms
If you have plasma installed you already have x11 installed, so you should be able to switch to an x11 session on login even if just to test this without having to install anything else
Question for you or anybody else using voyager who sees this: is your username the same color as OP’s? I assumed there’d be different colors (like ik red is for the instance admin) but yours looks the same color as the OP’s and now I’m questioning if I’m even more colorblind than I realized lmao
Also, seconding the ‘thank you’s, you’ve made a really great app and I really appreciate all the work you’ve done to get it to this point!
Edited to add: thank you everybody, turns out I’m just colorblind lol
Fuck that platform, if it dies right now the world will be a better place overnight. That being said, I’m against it being banned - imo if we’re petitioning for anything, it should be to get governments off of it and onto better alternatives.
For anyone else who was using the /etc/environment hack to reenable nvidia or intel HDR, it’s okay to remove it now
Arch user and I don’t own a mug (it was bloat)
THANK YOU SO MUCH
A part of me CANNOT stop seeing the top left eagle as a duck looking to the right of the image, please tell me someone else sees this too
if when
…did we read two different articles? The only link I see is to Mozilla’s own blog, explaining their choices in a relatively positive way. I’ve seen the effect you pointed out a lot, I just don’t see it here.
When this is the case it’s nearly always a missing library the game (or steam?) didn’t declare as required, ime. If you start the game from the terminal you can usually figure out which library it is and get it up and running, tho it’s usually easier to just use proton
Samsung in particular has “smart” monitors, so for some of them the answer is unironically yes
Glad to hear that! You might have some luck trying different proton versions with Deadlock (proton-ge is my goto) or checking protondb for anyone else’s results?
For you and/or anyone else whose instance might be defederated from lemmynsfw, here’s @Bigfish’s comment:
Re: your second question, I’m not at my pc rn so can’t give full details, but I’m running plasma on Wayland in arch using a nvidia card (3080) and everything’s flawless since the 555 driver update with explicit sync. Only thing that comes to mind is checking to see if you’ve set the nvidia-drm modeset=1 kernel parameter?
Also seconding @Bigfish’s suggestion about heat, try watching your temps while you game maybe? I’d also watch ram usage just in case something’s got a memory leak and is pushing you into swap.
KDE’s site has a library of custom icon themes iirc, that would be a good place to start getting people to see it. If you wanted to post some examples of your theme here that’d also be cool imo, lemmy is full of Linux users and if your pics are compelling I could see it getting a good amount of attention. Good luck!
