I like many among you loved sync and am frustrated with the bugs and lack of updates. It seems LJ has all but abandoned the app, so I did some looking around on the business of sync apps Ltd and can see from public records in the UK that he is keeping the business up to date. So it seems he is fine with collecting passive income from ad revenue.

@ljdawson@lemmy.world please just open source this app so the community can fix these bugs.

I myself have moved to thunder, very similar UX, lots of customization, and it’s open source.

    I’ve just installed thunder.

Pros setup was super easy although it initially said my instance didnt exist then suddenly found it

Cons Long pressing a comment and getting an overlay popup in order to upvote a comment is very annoying

I’ll leave it installed but its not for me right now.

Has anyone found anything else good ?

I tried Thunder but never vibed with personally. The by far best app for me after giving up on Sync was Summit. Which also, if you’re annoyed with ljdawson’s absence the Summit dev is like the polar opposite.

I’ll second summit. Been using it for about 6 months or so. The app gets updated regularly and the dev is active.

I recommend Voyager. Also has an app. Same feature set as sync. Also with hide item on scroll.

A lot of the long/short press stuff is configurable and gesture based (swiping left and right) is the fast way to interact. Which I was using the swiping on sync. Also configurable.

OK so that works but is awfully clunky - swipe partway right to upvote and fully right to downvote as opposed to tapping on the up / down arrow.

Yeah if that’s not configurable I’m out. And I’m damned if I can work out where to configure it

        EDIT

OK, it’s settings, appearance, comments, show comments action buttons.

With that usability hurdle cleared, OK, I’ll give it a burl
