It’s always weird to read how people used to talk on the internet. 09’ wasn’t that long ago, but the wording and conversation on this post just feels slightly off. It’s all a little more polite and toned down, less dramatic, but also more playful? I don’t know exactly how to put it into words, but reading older forum conversations makes me feel nostalgic for something I frankly never really experienced.

I think it was a lot more raw and much less polished (disregarding that fact that this was 4chan). People were simply more excited to be online and sharing whatever it was they were talking about, rather than crafting a personality image

2009 4chan is a distant memory at this point. Definitely had its own vibe.

4chan at that time was still a bunch of people pretending to be r-worded. it’s more self aware. lots of creativity.

Someone else phrased it well. Pithy replies are in vogue as they require you to put less of yourself out there and take less of others in. I miss the meandering crunchy streams of thought as well, but most of the current internet is harsh to them. Succinct affirmations or bust, except on Tumblr, one of the last vestiges of the old internet. 4chan lost them just around when stormfront moved in.

is this the thread you’re talking about? https://www.fark.com/comments/45086/NEWS-FLASH-PLANES-CRASH-INTO-WORLD-TRADE-CENTER-PENTAGON-Our-link-to-CNN-works-thanks-Metafilter-We-have-news-pics-in-comments-section-if-you-have-any-post-it-there

some unexpectedly prescient comments in there

I agree with Mme.Mersault, but I’m not sure we’ll nuke the right people. :/ There’s no such thing as too much force.
