Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why is my entire feed in this Lemmy server nothing but American politics and Reddit bashing
1·9 months ago- https://piefed.social/feeds
- I started posting regularly on !buyeuropean@feddit.uk which was originally at similar levels of activities with !buyfromeu@feddit.org, now it’s in the top 10 most active communities of the platform. People will follow content, whatever the mods want to do.
- I just started !ask@lemm.ee 2 days ago, reached 1000 active users just now
- !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone was created after powertripping of !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone, and is now much more active (!fediverselore@lemmy.ca for people interested)
You are saying that the model is broken, but examples above show otherwise.

0·9 months agoinstead focuses attention toward, for each topic, “the one big community” and its contingent idiosyncrasies.
!politics@lemmy.world, !usa@lemmy.ml and !politics@hexbear.net being all active in parallel seems to shows that the model is working

271·2 years agoMatrix still doesn’t have a multi account client with threads.
I don’t mind Matrix, but every time I bring this up to a hard core Matrix defender to how the clients are lacking, they don’t have much to counter.

3·2 years agoThe PDev version is better anyway.
I have a few communities that are still on .ml, I forgot you guys were defederated, maybe I should move them elsewhere

2·2 years ago.ml is okay to discuss Linux, the overlap between the two communities makes sense

3·2 years agoSure unless your instance is defederated, we need more ways to control the content without relying on defederation
Hopefully defederation will happen less and less with 19.X allowing users to block instances themselves

31·2 years agoI’m in plenty of communities where there are lots of low value posts that would normally be consolidated into a single stickied post for the community but there isn’t a large enough userbase to make a stickied post worthwhile despite there being multiple communities for that topic.
Any examples of those? What prevents those communities from merging?

2·2 years agoI do think it would be nice if there was a way for community mods to choose to combine two communities across instances,
If they are willing to cooperate that far, they could as well merge the communities

8·2 years agoWhat would help is that people stopped trying to find a “canonical place” to put content and just went on to put content without much worry. I have been basically posting on !humanscale@communick.news by myself. Would it be nice if more people posted? Yes. Do you think I will just give up because it’s been six months and no one else cared to post there? Of course not.
Today I learned about this community, seems interesting

3·2 years agoThere isn’t one “most active one” because federation isn’t perfect and every instance sees a different number of users/posts.
Number of users is pretty similar in my experience, with an average difference between 2 and 10 users.

61·2 years agoDo you have an example? Because all the evidence shows that people want to be seen when they post, and will naturally gravitate towards the most active communities, except if they are against the instance the most active community is.

5·2 years agoIn this case, it’s the first, which is obvious based on the number of subscribers and active users. You don’t even need a third party tool, it’s literally in the sidebar
