Only thing shocking about this is that it took this long. Any drone capable of carrying a weapon was going to get one. I mean, look at Ukraine right now. Consumer drones with soda bottle improvised explosives and cardboard drones. I can see a future where most warfare is drone vs drone, to see who can hit the other’s supply lines / storage first.

The way Russia’s turtling with illegal mines, drones are basically one of the only ways to attack without taking massive losses while also moving slowly and being sitting ducks for artillery.

Same. I stay away from #Explore and just keep to my feed of people I actually follow. And I make sure to unfollow those who are too stressful to hear from constantly.

I agree with almost all the of all politics all the time people who constantly post negative things, but it’s too tiring to read them, especially since knowing about it does me no good and I can’t do anything about it anyway. I already vote and donate as much as I can, and I live in a Blue state so anything outside of my area’s just not possible for me to influence.

I’ve found it’s better just to ignore it and focus on positive things that make my life better.

This is also why I stopped going to Mastodon. In addition to negative ragebait politics being almost the only thing that’s trending (and I have too much of that in my life already) there’s no real nuance or tolerance for anything outside the echo chamber.

You DO get called a racist nazi transphobe for stepping outside the box or trying to support people, ideas or places that might not be 100% perfect or pass the strictest ideological purity test. I thought Liberal Twitter was pretty exclusionary and echo-chamber-y, but Mastodon’s a lot worse.

To be fair, it’s one of the old school Republicans that would cross the aisle and vote for something Democrats made that are now Extinct in modern Politics. They died with John McCain, honestly. Better Manchin than Sinema or an actual modern Republican.

If I had to vote in 5-10 more Joe Manchin style “Democrats” to kick the same number of Republicans out of office in Red States, I would. Especially if it gave us 60 Democrats and the ability to have a filibuster-proof majority. Even if they were like “Immigrants are bad” or “All guns are good” or “We have to stop being woke about gays and trans and pronouns.” or whatever, as long as they weren’t all of that at once (and preferably only ONE of those at once) I’d vote them in, so long as they voted to do something about climate change, and also hopefully to reform the economy so all the money and power’s not in the hands of the big megacorps and billionaires.

People won’t stop being stupid and bigoted, so we have to take the wins we can. Everyone complains that Republicans keep trotting out “God, Guns, and Gays” every time they campaign, but what they’re not addressing is that Republicans keep WINNING with the 3 G’s and also immigration. They hold the house and have enough of the senate to filibuster everything. They’ve also used their control of the house and senate (and Presidency, when they have it) to pack the Supreme Court too.

I honestly want Democrats and liberal ideological purists to start being realistic now that the world is burning down around us and see that we’ve run out of time and need to start winning now, or else we won’t have a future. The fact that young Republicans believe in and want to do something about climate change is also a good thing. Reality is about power and consensus, it’s not about ideals.

Makes me think of the Privateer / Elite style X spaceship games, but that’s probably because of my personal bias towards games like that.

I don’t know about this case and this school, but in stricter Christian private schools, the men get kicked out too. One of my high school teachers was a principal at a Christian private school, and he got kicked out because his wife cheated on him.

He didn’t cheat on her or get anyone pregnant, she did while he was overworked at that school, but that was somehow a scandal / shame that reflected poorly on him and the school, so he was fired. Most “Christian” institutions are hypocritical pieces of shit that don’t follow their own rules or apply them selectively, but others follow their laws to the letter.

Not that those places are good either, they just enforce their standards. To be fair, those places tend to note be affiliated with Republicans, which kill everything they touch and is the major reason I left the church.

I’ll probably transition my AMD 8350 build over to Linux when Win10 stops being supported. As opposed to my mom’s FX-8370 build, which I’ll probably just have to replace with a new Windows 11 system, as there’s no way I’m expecting her (an elderly woman) to learn anything other than Windows. Especially since she’s reliant on Windows-only apps.

The actual hardware she’s using will probably be converted to a Linux Desktop, but I’ll have to migrate her data to a new mini Windows 11 PC or something.

I don’t really understand why Russia keeps doing stuff like this. If they keep this up, they’ll end up doing Ukraine’s job for them. I read that they’re having big trouble staffing manufacturing jobs. Gee, I wonder why?

I respect that sentiment, but if that happens, his stupid conspiracy believing gun-nut militia joining followers would probably engage in multiple mass shootings nationwide. It’s appalling how lax red state gun laws are.

It’s true. Kevin Feige (of the Marvel movies) once said something like, “People love chocolate ice cream, but if that’s all you offer them every day, they’ll start to hate it.” and for a time, it seemed like he and Disney / Marvel understood that, which lead to such a wide range of movie genres for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the breakout successes… but now I feel like they’ve forgotten that, and now we get the formulaic “Marvel Movie” template shoveled out, and now they’re slowly starting to fail.

And for good reason. People need variety, and it’s because entertainment producers don’t understand this need that so many major studios are flailing. Hence the recent purge at Pixar for example, and why Ubisoft is struggling lately, etc. It’s not just game publishers that have this issue, it’s movies, tv, and comics too. Like the recent “Death” of Ms. Marvel which is eerily similar to all the extremely temporary crap that happened to Peter Parker’s Spiderman in the past, like the “death” of his aunt, or his “marriage” to Mary Jane.

Everyone else has answered your other questions, but let me just say that I’ve used KDE Neon (while distro hopping) it’s both beautiful and functional. The latest KDE developments are really solid and intuitive, and based on their development updates I’ve seen on Mastodon and elsewhere, it seems like they’re really starting to understand their userbase.

I.E. they understand that most people want to double click icons to launch them even though almost the entire development team prefers single click. They’re not doing the tunnel-vision dev thing where they force what they love on users even though the vast majority of the userbase prefers the opposite.

Edit: It looks and feels gorgeous, and even similar alternatives like Kubuntu kind of feel a little worse to me. Then again, I’m a serious Cinnamon / KDE fan, so other peoples’ mileage may vary.

It’s not unintelligent. People are extremely adept at reading facial expressions and microexpressions. Years of evolution / survival instinct development have made us extremely skillful at knowing a lot about a person based on their face / eyes. Our lives depended on it, you see.

Your survival instincts (which are smart) are telling you she’s an untrustworthy, toxic individual that you probably shouldn’t keep around in your community, and in this case they’re right. Everything else she says and does backs up your instincts too, so this isn’t just a one-off thing.

Like others have said, this is kind of a broken clock is right twice a day kind of situation. Similar to when he said that prescription drug prices are too high.

Edit: The irony being that almost every time he had a “broken clock” moment, Biden was the one who acted on and fixed the issue he was right about. Infrastructure, pharmacy prices, even border security. Joe Biden actually did what Trump constantly promised and never delivered on.

With Windows 11 apparently just flat out stealing good stuff from KDE, may as well just use KDE instead. Cinnamon is my #1 desktop UI, but KDE is my #2. Keeps getting better too, based on what I see on KDE Neon.

Ah, the Windows approach. The few times I worked with PC Repair shops, backing up everything and reinstalling the OS was the go to for most “repairs”. Especially since it was faster and cheaper than just researching all the issues and repairing them the “right” way. Although to be fair, if the OS is borked enough, backup + reinstall IS the right way.

To be fair, mostly if it’s a more user friendly and Windows-like distro, like Mint with Cinnamon or Xubuntu. Plenty of choices really, but generally the ones where you can put application shortcuts on the desktop with no hassle (and similar Windows like things) tend to be an easier transition.

So true. Even Apple is spying, they just haven’t provably monetized it… yet. Probably will be the next person after Tim Cook who does it.

I almost thought this was a joke at first, but it looks like it’s legit? Anyhow, the fact that you need a spreadsheet is one of the reasons I never got into EVE. I don’t want a game that’s a second job. Doesn’t help that most of the office jobs I ever had required me to constantly make and use spreadsheets.
