Father; husband; mechanical engineer. Posting from my self-hosted Lemmy instance here in beautiful New Jersey. I also post from my Pixelfed instance.

If we’re talking about using existing technology to achieve a semblance of Internet functionality without the Internet, that might include Sneakernet, Pirateboxes, and Deadswaps. Or if you want to get sci-fi with it, there might be human couriers or data mules like in Johnny Mnemonic.
Lol my old Maytag is probably the most polite and introverted appliance in my house.
Perhaps I’m ashamed to admit that there’s no crime in asking.
Do the cameras just connect to a switch with PoE?
I didn’t get any useful results: https://www.google.com/search?q=ads
Around here in New Jersey, yes. People typically replace their doorbell switches with camera devices from Google or Amazon. People even set them up at their apartment doors. Dedicated NVR systems are also commonly installed in houses. In my case, I am not especially concerned about break-ins. Break-ins are rare in my neighborhood and I don’t think a camera system would do much to prevent one anyway. There have just been some nuisances over the past year including my bird feeder camera getting swiped and someone repeatedly letting their dog poop right next to my house without cleaning it up. I’d like to be able to have recordings of problems like that so I can maybe do something about it. Also, I like the idea of being able to check on things when I’m away.
Thanks!
I also have dog. Lots of great features exclusive this platform, but it has a few shortcomings as you mentioned.
Maybe it will be some consolation for you to remember that you and your coworker have a common adversary: your employer. If you find yourself taking your ignorant coworker’s bait, you can try constructively twisting it or redirecting her complaints against the ownership.
It was a pleasant experience for me here in NJ. The building had WiFi and a quiet area with desks for anyone who wanted or needed to get some work done. The staff ran a tight ship, but they were friendly about it. It was very easy to get dismissed for various reasons, which is what happened to me. I’m glad I wasn’t because it was a murder trial with a young defendant, which would have been a bummer.
Yes. If I’m actually some kind of cosmic being that can choose to be born yes, I am taking that pill. I’m taking all the experience pills.
Seems like a simple task to help verify that you are not a bot. It might also help deter applicants who are anti-communist. I guess you solved the problem for yourself by choosing a different instance.
Thanks, but there’s plenty of time for me to screw this up yet!
I did and the one feature she mentioned was that the tiles should be like stones. I guess me figuring it out is part of the gift.
Trying again doesn’t necessarily mean trying again right away.
They could have tried again with another booster and landing pad.
If the developers could fix search, it would go a long way in improving Mastodon.
Never post your resume or sign up for LinkedIn in the course of a job search? Never use a dating site? Never buy a domain? Never pay property taxes? Never go to court? I see your point, but never revealing your info online isn’t realistic or even a choice for most people.
I’m not sure which version of pict-rs it is. The Yunohost package is based on Lemmy 19.11, so I presume the pict-rs version is whichever one normally ships with that. Looking through lemmy-ynh/conf/pict-rs.toml, I see a commented reference to version 0.4.1.
