There are a handful of online games I do like to play, generally ones without competitive elements, and I limit online gaming to people I actually know. But yeah most of the games I do play are single-player.

You can play way more than just Aperture Desk Job for free, a lot of games on Steam these days are Free, and I’m not talking about free to play. I’m not sure but I don’t remember there being any full free games on the eshop, F2P yes but developers there never opted to make their games just free. Some devs on Steam absolutely have.

I’ve kind of given up on the idea of playing those types of competitive online games, not just because of people cheating in them but also because of how the community these days addresses cheating, by witch-hunting and accusing people of cheating for being too good, or for sucking at the game, or for having opinions on surveillance and security (sometimes just because for being queer). They also often harass these people they target. I have hundreds of toxic assholes on Steam blocked for this behavior alone because they came to my profile to harass me.

It’s because right wing people are simping for and sticking up for Israel, and the IDF. Notice how in the Article it’s LibsOfTikTok who’s calling out the game and encouraging its removal from Steam?

This is awesome, hopefully this means we might get new living room Steam Machines in the future. That would be very cool. I know you can build your own by getting a cheap AMD mini PC and installing unofficial Steam OS on it but it would be nice to have the real deal with an official Steam OS version.

Wow, if someone just sent me the text of the article I’d think this was made up for attention. The only way I know this actually exists and wasn’t a made up story is because it is the verge and also because the trailers and other media are out there showing it.

I think it’s different when it’s Garry the creator of the game, versus some random modder giving themselves permissions over a game simply because they made that mod. In the case of the random modder many would see it as cheating.

Yeah there are horrible people everywhere, where you live doesn’t have as much correlation with how much of an awful person you are as some people might think. These people aren’t awful because of their nationality but because they are awful disgusting people.

And while the other guy may not be a Russian (at least he doesn’t admit it) he’s still a pretty awful person. One of his most recent post replies is talking about how great killing LGBT people would be, and how he’d be for that since it would “destroy the LGBT in small parts” and somehow lead to “fully destroying LGBT”.
Not surprising whatsoever.

That’s honestly stupid of them to try that, they should know they’d get banned quickly for doing that. It’s not like we can’t figure it out pretty easily even if they try to obfuscate it, Steam emulators exist that can be used to find that kind of behavior even if you couldn’t decompile to see it.

I’d be willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort for better portability for a controller. That way it fits in my bag easier.

I mean why change what’s already great. Works on the Deck, would be just as great as a controller, if not better since it can be used with anything, not just the Deck.

Yeah there needs to be an effort to look for the problems, unfortunately the guy making fun of games because they suck and calling people “LGTVs” and making fun of queer people for “being woke” isn’t a prime example of that, it’s a prime example of someone pointing out that games are bad and sneaking in his hate of LGBTQ people into the videos.
We need to have an effort to critique and point out the real problems in why games are bad and AAA companies are making bad games, while also pointing out bad, biased, and hateful criticism that pushes a bigoted agenda.

I doubt they’ll ever admit it, or even look into it.

Many triple-a games are going to shit, they’re made with the goal of maximizing profits, they aren’t a labor of love and creativity in the way that indie games made by a small team or even a single person are. Of course the people spouting “get woke go broke” either don’t understand this or they don’t care because they have an agenda. So they push the idea that “wokeness” the idea of portraying LGBTQ people in a positive light, or even recognizing them at all, is what is ruining games, and not corporate greed and cutting of corners that AAA companies often do because they think it’ll maximize profits.

This is the case, the problem isn’t that there is racial diversity or LGBTQ people, it’s that a lot of AAA games are just horribly made at this point. Unfortunately I’ve seen quite a lot of people who miss that point and just use this as an opportunity to drop bigoted dogwhistles, and talk badly about how “LGBTQ are ruining games”, both being assholes and completely missing the point.

Their developer, Redline has a known history of mental illness, and he banned many people for having competing games in their library, leaving bad reviews, criticism, or just challenging him or calling out wrong or shady practices.

It’s because they are angry trolls who are already angry about something else and are choosing to take it out on others, hence why this guy decided to lash out at you without even paying attention to who he was replying to.

I’d also recommend joining GamesThatHateYou and following the curator since it’ll tell you if a game stopped using Denuivo or just switched to a different but similarly terrible DRM.
I don’t think anyone is arguing against their right to sell it, they’re being called out because people really shouldn’t buy it. It’s kind of a bad financial decision. If you still want to that’s your decision but people shouldn’t buy it without knowing they could get a better deal elsewhere. That’s why these things get called out for being too expensive, not because they aren’t or shouldn’t be allowed to, but because people deserve to know it’s a horrible deal.
