If you want you can personally filter out which brands of walkie talkies you can communicate with.

Other times your brand of walkie talkie might decide it doesn’t want anyone using its walkie talkies to communicate with another brand of walkie talkies. This is usually called defederation

In general if you stick to .world you’re mostly okay to not worry about it and you’ll have a good time. You might decide you don’t like .world because their defederalising from walkie talkie brands you want to talk to. In that case you can switch to a different brand. You’ll have to make a new account though. There are some account transfer tools but it’s still pretty new and not quite fleshed out.
