I have the same approach of browsing all and blocking what I don’t want as I come across it. Which in my case, happens to be mostly anime and shitposting communities.

I hadn’t noticed until the posts were weeks old, so I didn’t want to dig thru the mod log…
i don’t know why they “trust me” dumb fucks
Real quote from Mark Fuckerburg.
yea so if you ever need info about anyone at harvard just ask i have over 4000 emails, pictures, addresses, sns
That’s precisely why I left L.W. They also were removing community posts voicing opposition to threads federation. I witnessed it firsthand, where posts I commented in (and in which the majority of comments opposed it) were removed.
Now they removed the piracy communities again after promising not to. They are straight up untrustworthy and don’t care about what their users actually want.
I am happy on feddit.de. They are defederated from Threads and the tankie instances.
You’ve gotta block the communities yourself. I feel your pain, but what you’re requesting isn’t going to happen.
Every time I come across an anime community, I block it. But there are so many that keep popping up…
My block list is filled with so many anime, furry, and shitposting communities. It’s a bit annoying and an uphill battle, but you’ve got to go to their communities and block them individually (but also block the anime instances).
I have a key fob faraday cage/pouch keychain to prevent people from being able to dupe my key fob’s signal.

Jesus people… if you’ve gotten this far and don’t realize this is a troll, shame on you… Should have been obvious from their original comment even.
Stop feeding this troll.
It’s different on other platforms (like mastodon) but on lemmy, it only blocks posts from the blocked instance. Users from Threads would still be interacting in comments with the user who blocks their instance.
Regardless, I believe they should be defederated by instance admins on ethical grounds. Meta/FB have run unethical, uninformed experiments on their users, including purposefully inducing depression in their users.
The fact that Meta has assisted in genocide should be grounds for defederation by instances which claim to protect and care about their users.
Meta’s platforms have also played a key role in radicalizing users, and they purposefully marketed Threads to far-right extremists.
Here’s my argument with citations
There’s also good arguments to defederate and block them from the fedivers based on EEE.
If an instance’s admins claim they care about protecting their users and providing a safe, healthy community but are federated with Threads, then they are either uninformed or liars.
Nah, it’s on topic to the comment discussing userbase and donations. I’m not alone in leaving due to Threads either.
Yeah, I plan on donating here as well. I am a little cleaned out by tuition and textbooks at the moment though…
Just chiming in to say they lost my donations and me as a user for federating with Threads. I’m over on feddit.de now because they’re the only instance I could find defederated from Threads and the tankies.
Edit: Have to edit this comment because I’m laughing at all of the butthurt users who are downvoting me because they don’t like my personal decision.
The “Is it good for us? Let me modify my interpretation/beliefs” act you’re describing is in itself rationalizing. What you’re focusing on is their motivation for doing so. And yes, it is a simple motivation.
You are right that there is no reasoning with radical groups like MAGA/QAnon/mainstream conservatives. We cannot pull them out of their extremism with reason. They have to want to change themselves.
Trying to persuade family who have fallen into this extremism typically backfires and results in frustration, anger, and hostility. This tends to just push the family member(s) further into the community they feel “gets them.”
All of this is cited and elaborated on in this blog post of mine. (I have ads turned off and do not benefit in any way from my blog.)
Yeah, that is absolutely a huge part of it. The reinforcement from their “community” is an essential part of how people are radicalized.
(To cite that claim, here is my write-up on the subject with valid citations. My blog has ads turned off and I don’t benefit from it in any way.)
The rationalizing comes in when their beliefs are challenged by other people/other media (or reality checks when QAnan predictions repeatedly fail to come to fruition).
The fact that reality has been indistinguishable from The Onion since 2016 is the best argument for reality being a simulation. The admins decided to ramp up the satire levels. Then in 2020, they decided to leave satire turned up, but to also crank up suffering.
Just to be clear, I am only being sarcastic. I think…
I think why they do not care is because they don’t “believe” it. The more important question (IMO) is: “How can they deny this blatant reality?”
The answer is because they shield themselves from reality with Olympics level mental gymnastics, rationalizing away cognitive dissonance and living in their own deluded reality.
Your comment is so out of touch and ridiculous…

Well he didn’t mention E. Jean Carroll… Honestly surprised he had the restraint. Let’s see how long it lasts. I doubt he has the impulse control. I seriously doubt he learned any lesson from this…

I have a surface pro 8 and love it for school work in grad school. I love the stylus for note-taking and load it up with pirated textbooks. Saved $670 - $780 (used vs new) on next semester’s books.
I can’t see myself buying a new one tho once I finish school.
