I’d argue that Valve does more than just take 30% as a middle man. Between Steam Input, Proton, the beta built in recording system, the Forums for every game, community system and the marketplace, having your game on Steam is a massive value generator for the consumer and by extension developers.

30% might not be what the industry standard should be, but Valve isn’t just providing a standard digital distribution service.

Man, if only there was some kind of like, party representative, whose job is to be the face of the party and their policies in order to motivate people to vote for that party. Oh well, might as well cry about Trump a million times over instead of thinking about how the party could improve it’s own odds of getting elected.

I just think we should hold our political representatives to a higher standard. Trump got in, for a number of cultural reasons I’m told, but a significant contributing factor was because Democrats pushed Hillary Clinton super hard under the assumption that they’d win anyway, and ended up alienating much of the left who didn’t like Hillary who, shockingly, didn’t vote for her.

Biden’s stance on Israel has likely alienated much of the voter base who has ties to Palestine or at the least are sympathetic to their struggle. I don’t like seeing patterns of loss in the party that’s supposed to be the good guys in the two honestly pretty bad parties.

Yeah if America was just honest about the political douloploly then merely being better than the worst option would be a valid strategy.

Unfortunately these pesky third parties seem to provide a better option to part of voterbase, and sadly the poor Democrats still have to compete with them too instead of just settling on being the least mediocre. So sad, so evil.

Yep, not denying that, and the solution is just for the Democrats to just not be a worse option that third parties. Democrats are not entitled to votes becuase they’re just better than the other bad option.

I mean in an ideal democracy voting for the party you actually like wouldn’t just lead to the party you hate the most getting more power.

I said third parties my gamer, as in people not voting either rerun of the crusty old guys.

As an outsider, I feel that the Democrats would have an easier time turning third parties over if they didn’t push a dementia patient who could lose the last of his competency next term.

It’s crazy to think that people are still making new games on Unity after it’s been made painfully obvious that the company is in the corporate downward spiral of enshittification.

Back in the day, Nintendo got big on quality control. That’s less of a selling point now that almost every big publisher is pushing for yearly releases and devs need to rush out unfinished games to meet corporate expectations. A console was also just miles ahead in user friendliness that a computer up until around the PS4/Xbone.

The way forward for consoles these days is to have more interesting hardware, but Microsoft is resistant to just having gyro in the xbox controller so don’t hold your breath for the next xbox being anything worth looking at.

I would argue ability to provide a service is in it’s self an abstract form of capital.

Time, energy and willpower can also be viewed as a capital. There’s a reason business owners will pay people to be doing work they could easily do themselves. And I think it’s important that we as a society recognise that any time or energy spent transactionally should be properly compensated.

Of course we shouldn’t fall for the trap of trying to maximise and optimise every last ounce of capital in our lives, its important to learn to let go of our posessive human nature. But we should appreciate when we are giving and taking things to and from other people.

That’s a vague platitude.

Capitalism works becuase we live in a transactional reality. Food could not grow on trees of the tree didn’t take capital (I.e. resources such as nutrients from the soil, light and heat from the sun) to grow that apple. If farmers did not account for the resources the tree needs the tree would simply die.

The issue with capitalism today is that we over apply it and forget to help people who truly need help, and thanks lobbying by sociopathic business owners, we have created a system where we much engage with learned sociopathy to survive and function. We look down at the homeless sick and needy and invent backstories to justify their suffering. They must be drug abuses, violent, lazy, etc cetra.
