The problem is for organizations it’s harder to leave because that is where the people you want to reach are. That’s the only reason any org or company is on social media in the first place. If they leave too soon they risk too many people not seeing the things they send out to the community.

It’s more an individual thing because so many people just have social inertia and haven’t left since everyone they know is already there. The first to leave have to decide if they want to juggle using another platform to keep connections or cut off connections by abandoning the established platform.

I shouldn’t have anything to hide, but I’m part of a group the current fascist leadership in government want’s to eradicate, so hide I shall.

That said, I also feel like people acting like the remote server they are connected to is tracking what you do on it as some kind of surprise is so stupid. “Facebook is keeping track of the pictures I uploaded to it!!!” There’s a lot of stuff to complain about Facebook, google, or whoever, but them tracking stuff you send to them willingly isn’t one of them.

Not in the way you think. They aren’t constantly training when interacting, that would be way more inefficient than what US AI companies have been doing.

It might be added to the training data, but a lot of training data now is apparently synthetic and generated by other models because while you might get garbage, it gives more control over the type of data and shape it takes, which makes it more efficient to train for specific domains.

Exactly. I’m queer. I’m not scared of China, even if they were doing the same thing the US currently is. Because only one of those actually effects the rights I have and what I do in my day-to-day.

As a queer woman in the US, I currently care infinitely more what the US gov and companies track about me than what China does.

Anything you use on a remote server is going to be seen to some degree. They may or may not keep track of you, but you can’t be surprised if they are. If you run the model locally, there is no indication it is sending anything anywhere. It runs using the same open source LLM tools that run all the other models you can run locally.

This is very much like someone doing surprised pikachu when they find out that facebook saves all the photos they upload to facebook or that gmail can read your email.

That’s kind of what happened to me. Never needed to study in grade school. Had to scramble and learn how to study in college.

Still didn’t register why I had so much trouble focusing or remembering stuff until the last year or so.

I’ve been calling Trump the symptom and not the problem since 2016. He is the direct result of the decades of GOP rhetoric. They’ve always been building toward a demagogue since Regan.

A lot of this comes from professors wanting comments in assinments and grade on arbitrary levels of if it exists.

I had one class where the instructor would give a vuage “not enough comments” that I did comments like this on every fuction and loop out of spite.

My handwriting has always been terrible. It was a big issue in school until I was able to turn in printed assignments.

Like with a lot of school things, they do a shit thing without thinking about negative effects. They always want a simple solution to a complex problem.

Years ago I was in the phone to my mom and she brought up that some blue states were allowing abortion up to birth. That didn’t sound right so I looked up the one for New York and read it.

Was the most plainly worded bill I’d ever seen. Basically laying out life of the mother or nonviable clauses in the 3rd trimester.

I read it to my mom and she still didn’t believe me. Like, it was the primary source and she still took fox “news” over it.

There was also a time when I was like 13 or something where she talked about after birth abortion by sucking the babies brain through the soft spot or something horrible like that. Even then, non political and a fucking child I could tell it was bullshit.

Unfortunately, once you get enough money the system is designed to keep you wealthy no matter how much you fuck up.

Like, Trump has had multiple failed companies including casinos thay failed because he had them competeing with each other.

Yet while he’s probably not a billionaire he still has the status of “wealthy” and managed to fail into the most powerful position in government.

Musk had more money, and therefore can fuck up way harder and still be fine. He could burn Twitter to the ground for all the effect it would have on him.

This hurts users actually trying to find help more than it hurts reddit.

You want reddit to die just stop engaging with it. Archiving old info isn’t a profitable platform because new stuff drives engagement.

Being active elsewhere is what will kill reddit.

If your kid is trans or gay and they don’t feel safe coming out to you then that’s your fault. There are no decisions being made. Kids are going to be queer weather you like it or not.

If you think you can “do something” about your kids being queer then that’s probably why they don’t want to tell you.
