There’s definitely something going on. Whenever I add a Lemmy instance URL that isn’t obfuscated somehow, like replacing the periods with commas or (dot), then my comment gets no likes or responses, whereas a very similar comment in the same thread without a link does.

It seems to down rank it in the algorithim, if not outright shadow remove them.

This doesn’t help with avoiding new purchases, but perhaps getting involved in Meshtastic might interest you? As a side effect, putting up your own meshtastic node would help bolster your communities decentralized communication ability for natural disasters or political unrest.

I’d actually never used Photoshop until yesterday (CS6 to be exact. Yarr! 🏴‍☠️ ), out of curiosity to see how it compared to this modded GIMP, so I don’t really have a good frame of reference on how they truly compare beyond what I messed around with briefly.

On a side note, I’ve seen on youtube that it’s possible to get the latest version of Photoshop working in WINE on Linux Mint, which could be an option if you decide to fully switch to Linux. I managed to get CS6 working in WINE, though it seemed to be a little slowish when making brush strokes (unsure if that was normal or not), and there was a couple minor visual bugs (a tooltip not going away), but nothing that would’ve fully prevented me from using it.

There’s very good reasons that app developers focus on flatpaks, which mostly revolves around how incredibly terrible the experience is creating native packages for each distro and each release version of those various distros.

Flatpak used to be problematic, but even a loud hater of Flatpak, Richard Brown of openSUSE, now lauds Flatpak as an excellent solution after his criticisms were addressed.

The Qt foundation tried to get fucky once already, and KDE and some other major companies that rely on it were about ready to fork it if they persisted. Qt seemed to calm down after that.

Not a great relationship to be in though, constantly suspecting that your toolkit might do a rugpull at some point if the shareholders demand it. But I think they could pull off a fork if they ever did.

I think you might be confusing it with something else. Pixelorama is quite a recent app developed entirely with the Godot engine.

From a pure usability and features standpoint, if you are capable of compiling it, there is no reason to use Libresprite over aseprite.

LibreSprite’s only advantage is the GPL license and the ease of installation compared to compiling aseprite (if one does not pay)

The forks are based off an older version, and received less development compared to the OG after stopped being FOSS. A serious artist or gamedev would likely appreciate the additional features of the OG, but the forks are free, and still retain much of what made aseprite so good, making them more than adequate to learn with or any pixel art amateur.

AFAIK, GrapheneOS supports the Pixel Tablet, which is probably the only truly secure android tablet on the market.

If you’re willing to sacrifice some UX, there are some Linux tablets. A cheaper option could be a 2-in-1 chromebook that allows installing Linux.

Otherwise, you could try to degoogle your Samsung tablet by installing LineageOS on it, if it’s supported.

I agree entirely, especially as modern systems massively ballooning the required knowledge and skill.

However, I do think there could’ve perhaps been a happy medium, where OS’s retained and continued to develop a simple, built in way to program easily and without setup to retain the spirit of what BASIC provided.

I guess I’m imagining a sort’ve evolved version of Hypercard, which seemed to be on the path of providing something like that.

The beauty of HyperCard is that it lets people program without having to learn how to write code — what I call “programming for the rest of us”. HyperCard has made it possible for people to do things they wouldn’t have ever thought of doing in the past without a lot of heavy-duty programming. It’s let a lot of non-programmers, like me, into that loop.

As someone who also bounced off Manuskript for similar reasons, I think this will be right up your alley. :)

I feel like more people using smaller instances is a good thing, as it helps them become one of those desirable instances, and helps keep the Admins of those small instances motivated to maintain their instance (since they see their efforts being rewarded).

I do get that a bigger instance provides a smoother experience out of the box, but with Lemmy Federate and Lemmyverse search, I feel like it’s easier to overcome a small instance limitation on lemmy compared to a small mastodon instance.

True, forgot about them! Only issue with Lems (or at least their boots) is their construction doesn’t lend itself super well to resole-ing (though neither do Vivo’s, really), though I have heard of cobblers doing it by grinding down the existing sole and gluing on a replacement.

The Jim Green Barefoot African Ranger is constructed like a traditional boot, so is easily resoled by any cobbler, but I had to send mine back since they weren’t wide enough for me (they seem to be on the more narrow end of ‘barefoot’ style boots).

But for how affordable lems are, they’re a solid choice and have way more cushion than vivos.

After trying Barefoot style shoes (which usually have much wider than normal toeboxes) I can never go back.

Vivobarefoot shoes are expensive, but pretty high quality and have a great toebox.

Freet are more affordable and often made of recycled material, but some of their designs can be slightly odd looking. They hold up well though, very nice quality from the reviews I’ve seen. They’re made in the UK, I believe.

Splay shoes offer what is essentially wide toebox vans.

There’s tons more though. I’d recommend Anya’s Reviews to narrow down what suits you best, she’s pretty legit in her info from what I’ve seen.

I’ve gotten an extremely similar comment on a couple posts I’ve made here on lemmy, in a video community no less.

Personally I just said something’s like “welp, sorry that’s not your preferred format.” and then just move on.

With how infrequent posts like that are, they don’t effect me at all, but It’d probably suck more if I was consistently getting negative comments like that,

There’s nothing from a user experience currently that makes bluesky bad, it’s just that since it doesn’t seem to actually support decentralization, there’s nothing to stop it from eventually getting just as bad as twitter over time due to profit incentive. Misskey/mastodin are the only microblogging platforms that are truly immune from corporate manipulation and enshittification, which would mean it’s a long term solution (that while imperfect, can only get better).
