  • Started college at 2020 January. Information technology. I did well during the time I was there but whole covid thing just made me hate my school and like I needed change.

We were going back and forth remote and in person classes, both of which were really bad in terms of quality of the teaching and I felt like if I am mostly learning from external sources and teaching sucks.

I refused to attend in person classes due to covid risks despite it being kind of mandated so I managed to negotiate that I just study on my own and take the exams. And my grades didn’t even get worse.

I’m not the type of person to keep doing something I feel like is useless for a paper that might give me slight advantage for getting a job. Education itself is free in my country but I just hated getting more and more student debt to cover other my living costs.

I decided "fuck this I’m just gonna get a IT job and teach myself and that’s what I did. I wouldn’t say that I’m at my dream job now but I feel confident I am able to progress on this career just fine despite dropping out.

  • It does but when you input error logs it does pretty good job at finding issues. I tried it out first by making game of snake that plays itself. Took some prompting to get all features I wanted but in the end it worked great in no time. After that I decided to try to make distortion VST3 plugin similar to ZVEX Fuzz Factory guitar pedal. It took lot’s of prompting to get out something that actually builds without error I was quickly able to fix those when I copied the error log to the prompt. After that I kept prompting it further eg. “great, now it works but Gate knob doesn’t seem to do anything and knobs are not centered”.

In the end I got perfectly functional distortion plugin. Haven’t compared it to an actual pedal version yet. Not that AI will just replace us all but it can be truly powerful once you go beyond initial answer.

  • I don’t have deck just yet, but I plan to get it. I much rather buy it over something like Rog ally, cause I really appreciate it is running linux and how it has contributed to Linux gaming overall.

And, Rog ally is way more expensive, and being able to play triple A games is not important for me, I have my PC for that. I want deck to play my small indie games.

  • Great thread, although I tbh don’t even want alternatives for most of them.

    Lemmy, sure.

Discord, would be nice but until I get my friends and servers to move to something else, not gonna work.

Facebook, I don’t ever want to use anything like it even if it was open source.

Mastodon, I don’t want to use it despite being fedoverse cause it tries to be like Twitter and I hate Twitter.

Pixelfed, I don’t really want to use anything like instagram and even if I did, not relevant until people I want to follow use it since I wouldn’t post myself.

Tictoc, I would rather scoop of my eyeballs with rusty spoon than use it, no matter if it would be federalized.

Others not mentioned I don’t care enough to know how they work. Still, I support the sentiment of making fedoverse alternatives for things, although I personally only need lemmy and discord to get my dopamine fix.
