The fuck they do. I had to go hunt down some tool grooming and using my kid at that age. A lack of confidence and want of external validation are powerful drivers to do stupid things that can have massive life changing impacts.

This isn’t new, cell tower triangulation is a fact of the network operation and is part of how your signal gets handed off between towers as you travel. Airplane wouldn’t do anything unless it where to actually disable the sim entirely, and functionally even that doesn’t cut it in the USA given that a device without one can still connect to emergency services via any tower in reach.

This is just the carrier giving a customer the data that would already exist, for a price, which I thought T-Mo actually used to give for free…

Take a look at the ‘news’ on various instances like hexbear vs world and it’s night and day. An encyclopedia is meant to be factually reliable, but if this works like it does here you would have the equivalent of conservapedia and prolewiki sitting side by side as ‘true’.

This sounds like a way to have 13 different ‘realities’ for any given topic, depending on which instance it was hosted on.

I’ve read of a couple small places. Was a coffee shop in the cities around here where they guy running it for 20+ years wanted to get out and the staff decided that rather than a new owner they would raise funds to buy it. Sort of run like a direct democracy with some rules based on seniority and such.

Like most anything P2P scale, consistency, and adoption are huge factors.

There is a convenience vs privacy/security line to things that any given individual needs to decide where that lies for themselves. Plenty of people use Facebook and similar because there are a lot of people using it and there is a low bar to entry. Many of these big tech options will let you authenticate via a single click to share creds from another service, the ‘sign into Reddit with your Google account’ simplicity.

Then there are people like me who self host everything they can. I know exactly where my cloud files are, where my movies are, where my chat messages reside, heck where the Lemmy instance I’m posting this from is, all a few feet away from me. There is a cost to this, not only in actual hardware and electricity but in time and friction in that these systems are not going to have that ease of access that other do.

The bigger challenge is the bleed-over privacy risk. There’s no reasonable way for to ask the rest of the world not to post pictures or similar side channel disclosures. Short of becoming an outright hermit in the woods there’s always going to be some level of privacy leakage, that’s the part harder to manage.

Yeah, that’s the tough part. I would say base it on those who use both platforms but I suspect those who use multiple platforms tend to use a primary first and others if they can’t find it. Maybe a survey when you buy it asking why you chose this format could help?

Defiantly, GOG is the first choice here old or new even if it’s cheaper elsewhere just to support that model.

This is of course assuming they wouldn’t have had those extra 20% of sales if they went without.

Someone should try a comparison to release on one platform with the DRM and also on GOG with a discount for the amount the DRM would have otherwise added to the price and see which sells better.

My thinking with a lot of those games where you have the handful of over-the-top ‘spenders’ is that at least a few are employees of the company given a free pass to add to their accounts. It’s not like it costs them anything, but it sure incentivizes a bunch of others to buy to try and compete.

There are some use cases other than web page compatibility. One for me is in dealing with firewall and proxy policy, if the agent is a browser and comes in on specified explicit ports then force authentication, things of that nature.

Sounds like no GOG then? If they’re doing DRM free that would seem a natural fit.

That’s my go to for my quick scratch pad notes, generally something I only need for a one time deal.

I use the Bit Warden secure note feature for more permanent things.

If it is a more ongoing documentation deal that needs organization I like Bookstack.

All depends on the purpose one uses it for.

There was an event the next day where he gave a speech to a friendly crowd and by comparison he sounded like a spry well organized guy half his age. Hardly a mention of that out there though. I’m not a big fan of his miliqtost, half steps on a lot of things but it’s playing the game with what cards are available and having decades in political office gives you the experience to do it.
