I used to have a little gizmo that would transmit the turn off signal for a large range of tvs. It was the size of a car key fob. I tried it once in my company cafeteria that had a tv that was set way too loud and this woman would always come in and blast soap operas when I was trying to relax. I usually just sucked it up but this time I tried my device from about 20 ft away and the tv turned off. I made sure I looked innocent. She looked confused but turned it back on. lol

Are you qualified to be a technical assistant? You could get involved in a science oriented environment without, say, having a degree in a scientific field. It could be pharmacology, etc.

Ugh, I hate the lie we’ve promoted for decades that “you can be anything!” and “you’re all special!”. No, we can’t all be anything we want. I’ll never be a rock star, I’ll never be a great athlete, etc. And we aren’t all special, we are more alike than we may care to admit.

Your specific issues may be due to unrealistic expectations. Do you hate jobs in general due to being on a schedule all the time? Should you have your own business? Look at what you choose in other people, what you look for may need to change since it has a bad track record. Look at your own behavior too, are you self sabotaging? Do you have bad traits like a short temper? As far as a house that has so many variables like where you live may just be too expensive, need to look harder for smaller and older homes in your price range, etc.

Maybe write up some basic admin instructions (updating, services start/stop, user management, etc). Hire yourself out as a consultant on call if you leave :D

Parents set the stage for valuing education. If there is no value on it at home it will be reflected in the kids and it will then be passed through the generations. Generation after generation of barely getting by and failure.

Pretty much it. They have been trained by decades of “if it bleeds it leads” news, Fox news, and talk radio to be in perpetual fear and see themselves as being under attack. The internet has fueled this wildly. They see everyone as being out to take their way of life away, steal their money (taxes), needing guns against the mobs waiting outside of their door, etc. On top of that is an apocalyptic mindset that used to be just evangelical Christian but now has become a secular mentality of “shake society hard enough and we’ll magically come out on top”. It is the lottery mentality of success, no effort, no self improvement just have it fall into your lap.

Meanwhile the wealthy continue to push for the degradation of society as long as it serves them in their lifetimes. Cut corp taxes to nothing, cut capital gains taxes, move from income taxes to sales taxes, buy struggling businesses, fire everyone, don’t pay debts, take out loans against it then cash in on selling the pieces. Destroy the environment because only future generations will pay for that. Corp and capital gains tax cuts and tariffs put more and more of the burden on the lower and middle classes. Get rid of education oversight, medical research, financial watchdogs, etc, none of those matter to the wealthy who will always have access to private schools, concierge doctors, financial advisors, lawyers, etc. They just keep distracting the working class and rural voters with frivolous culture wars distractions while they pick your pockets.

The fact that so many people continue to support him is sickening. They live in a fantasy that the world is 1700 and we don’t need a federal gov or any social systems. They love having a big military to bully the world though.

Demonstrations have become so predictable that people ignore them now. Politicians know that if you wait a few days they will be forgotten. What you really need to do is shut down the nation like the French rail unions do.

I knew the whole idea of letting a company get your genetic fingerprint was a bad idea from the start. Being curious about my ancestry wasn’t worth it.

They enlarged rt 3 near rt 95 in MA many years ago. It was getting backed up due to all of the people moving further out from Boston. I said “It will be full again in a few years.” Yup. It was moving well for a few years so everyone piled into that area because the commute was better and within a few years it was a traffic jam again.

I like writing documentation for processes at work. I always aim it at the “I’m familiar with the tools but haven’t done this before” person. I always include examples of the actual commands because it is one thing to describe a command but when you see it it makes FAR more sense.

Good advice. Same with real estate. There are all sorts of laws in target nations you’d never expect. For instance, some nations will tax your money hard if you try to leave them.
