I’ve been doing these for years… they don’t work as intended for more than a year or two, and then become pretty unstable. Even the lady who created it went back to low-maintenance (as opposed to zero input) systems after a few years. Still with the dirt and all but not without water movement and stuff.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the worst work of art you've ever made?English
1·11 months agoI made some video game themed Xmas ornaments out of air dry clay as a gift… they turned out fine, but I didn’t realize the paint I used on them didn’t do a good enough job sealing them up. They should have been resin-dipped. In places the paint cracked, moisture got in, and over a couple years expanded the paper-based clay through the cracks so they look super creepy now. Very disappointing.
Mistakes are a great way to learn, though.

I don’t think I’m capable of self-hosting something like this (I was using invidious public instances), but who knows.

0·1 year agoI’ve gotten a lot of crap from conservatives this year. First time that’s really happened. Usually just get stuff from dems.
So I’m leaning toward they didn’t buy targeted data, they just bought the cheapest data they could. They may have no idea who their likely voters are.
I’m in the same boat. So much that I just paid a bunch to replace the transmission of my 2012… I could probably have not done that and invested in something newer, but I don’t… want that…
I’ll stick with just getting more of this exact car when this one isn’t repairable anymore (it has telemetry, but it can’t be accessed without plugging in directly, which isn’t typically a huge concern I have) Or when they can be flashed, as you say. Like I’d love to have an EV because I rarely drive far, but I absolutely won’t buy a spymobile to get one.

3·1 year agoPro tip: don’t hang stuff by the clasp. The weight can stretch them out if they are made of junk metal (most are).
Instead, hang them by the ring/chain the clasp clasps onto. You can use upside down earring hooks to string them up if you have a pack of spare, otherwise small head finish nails can usually accommodate the chains.

0·1 year agoI guess the only way to really get ahead of the timing in those places would be to lie and say the last period was a bit over a week ago but you had a condom break and have tested at-home daily since.
I’m sure that’s not foolproof but it would give a bit more time at least. Maybe. Idk if they can tell based on ultrasound or anything at that stage, but I assume not…?
ETA: Actually that wouldn’t help that much since ovulation isn’t until the 14th day after period on average… you have a baked in two week bullshit time. Plus apparently another 10-20 days before it would even pop positive on a pregnancy test.
So basically banned yeah. There’s basically no way even with lying to meet that timeframe.

- Dangling over an active volcano like a rotisserie chicken

Although… if it’s -just- us, no handlers or secret service, I’m pretty sure I could easily fuck him up (and not in a way he’d enjoy). I may be a tiny disabled woman, but he’s a senile old fuck (what is he, almost 90?), who can’t even get his posture right, and those tiny hands are made for reaching into other’s pockets, not grappling. What hope does he have against a former wrestler and military vet, even a broken one?

politics @lemmy.world•Kamala Harris was great in the debate. Will that be enough to win? by Bernie SandersEnglish
0·1 year agoThe focus on seniors (from pick your poison politician) is fine and all… I realize a lot of people are seniors, and they are reliable voters and stuff.
Seriously though, I’m so fucking tired of hearing about what seniors will/could get from the next term, and this isn’t a lot better. There’s some good stuff, but cmon, you aren’t actually going to sway entrenched old people no matter what you give them.
I love sanders, I went to see him speak a few months back when he was at a union hall locally. But this country is mostly -not- old people. We really need to stop catering to them, at our own expense.
I’m almost 40. I don’t give a flying fuck into a rolling donut about seniors compared to the entirety of the working class. You know, the people making all their entitlements solvent? They fucked it up already, and they had their chance to fix it many many times since. As a generation, they fucking failed to do anything meaningful for us, their progeny, why should we prostrate ourselves to them? They are going to fucking die soon, and while we should absolutely take proper care of them…. (So please don’t misunderstand this rage)
WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US???
(Full disclosure, I’m presently a canvasser for the Harris/Walz ticket, and I’ve talked to a lot of old people who only give a fuck about what it means for them. They have kids, they have grandkids, but their only concern is why they get out of it, and that’s fucking disgusting. I hate talking to those selfish assholes. I do it because it’s my job, but holy shit do I just want to say “cool story, bro” and walk away. Also those fuckers don’t shut up about what they want. Don’t care grandpa, you aren’t even part of the economy anymore except what they can extract from your estate to keep you alive, so your kids get nothing…)

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s voter turnout operation in swing states is too small, GOP worriesEnglish
0·1 year agoI’m a pro-immigration canvasser in a rural-ish area of a swing state, and I’ve seen a lot of dem canvassers from other orgs on my turfs.
I’ve seen a car of people putting out door hangers for trump, but they weren’t canvassing at all, just leave the thing and take off. Meanwhile there are a dozen dem flyers there already. That’s it. That’s the extent of what I’ve seen out there.
In 2020 I’d run into lots of canvassers for trump… buuuuuuuuuut those groups didn’t get paid like they were supposed to, and those canvassers got super salty. Rightly so. It’s no wonder nobody wants to do it this time around.

politics @lemmy.world•Kamala Harris is winning the fundraising race by a mileEnglish
0·1 year agoYep, I literally get paid (almost as well as my last job requiring a degree did, this just isn’t permanent) to canvas for progressive politics in a swing state.
Honestly, I wouldn’t do it if I wasn’t getting paid, even though I firmly believe getting out the vote for progressives (or as close as we can manage at any rate) is important. There’s so much money being pumped into it, that I’m not willing to give my time for free. I’m not in the top 10%, so my time is actually valuable.
But getting paid means I’ve had conversations with ~200 voters in the last week, the majority of whom are voting dem up and down the ticket, even if they used to be strong republicans. Maybe it won’t help overall, but we have a GOP-sponsored referendum almost nobody has heard of, for which our org is encouraging a no vote, so if nothing else this effort may help defeat that.
(Hopefully this plug is ok, it’s not my organization, I just work with them. If not I’ll edit it out.) If anyone reading this is in the US, and interested in getting paid (well paid, and with insurance available from day 1) for canvassing work for a couple months, check out the outreach team’s website. They have open positions for various sponsored regional campaigns in lots of important areas across the US, and they hire quickly with minimal hoops to jump through. I worked with them for the 2020 election as well, and in both cases it was 2 days from interview to start date. https://www.theoutreachteam.net/
I actually have a number of games that are Ubisoft that I love. They aren’t super new or anything, but they aren’t flops by my metrics (granted, I bought them used long after launch)
I didn’t know they were when I got them, then the ubiconnect thing comes up and I just don’t do that, and it’s just a game that takes longer to load than it should.
Idk about any super bad practices, maybe PC is different from console stuff? (which is how I play, hence used game market, because I can sell it later if needs must) or is this something that spans console as well? What sort of bad practices?

(Every country has its own illicit market, it’s just where that takes place and what is restricted that matters… no legislation is ever going to rid the illicit market. Ever. It exists for a reason, whatever reason. Just make the majority of it (self-harm drugs and the like) legal and the illegal rings for other stuff are a lot easier to spot. Those will be the things that should be illegal, not drugs which primarily harm adults able to consent to doing them. Let’s do the Portugal method of decrim and social support. Even if it isn’t perfect, it’s good.)

It depends how I shove the tray back in. I add eggs to them more often than I take them out.
Currently I’m sorting my quail eggs between small and large because I’m going to use the small ones for chive blossom pickled eggs, and the large for a big batch of cookies, but usually they just end up wherever they fit, one tray at a time.
My chickens are going to be another month or two before they start laying.
