In the military as an enlisted man, you are guilty until proven innocent. It would be easier to get off knowingly participating in a war crime than to knowingly refuse an illegal order.

The idea that American servicemen are trained to recognize and refuse illegal order is a fallacy. My dad did 26 years as an enlisted man and eventually made chief, he will openly admit to having zero faith in the US military ability to do the right thing.

No one seriously believes that protesting is going to change the administration’s mind, protesting is a way to bring attention to a problem. Which will hopefully get people who normally wouldn’t participate in the Democratic process to get involved.

The article doesn’t advocate for any particular solutions, it’s just identifying a problem. I’m not sure how a criticism of protest really adds anything to the discussion?

UBI has always been a scheme developed by billionaires to lower the tax burden. Seriously, just look at any politician or think tank associated with it, and it will usually be funded by a billionaire.

UBI is meant to keep the status quo, or to even roll back social safety programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and social security. Billionaires would rather pay people a static couple a thousand bucks a month than pay for the inflating cost of healthcare, education, and affordable housing.

Almost all serious attempts to pass a UBI bill have been made as a response to things like Medicare for all, or to programs like rent freezing.

Yeah, we had a few of those types at our hospital as well. Our state was the epicenter of some nurses suing their hospitals for mandating vaccinations.

They were always the shittiest nurses to begin with and never stuck around very long anyways. Though I can’t really think of a better way to isolate yourself from your fellow coworkers than being a antivax healthcare worker during a pandemic.

Yeah… I wasn’t a fan, but that’s mostly jealousy talking. As an introvert working in healthcare, it was painful to have to go to work everyday and deal with the dumbest patient population in the history of the country while everyone else got to work from home.

They just don’t care. It’s just like what they are doing with federal workers who can’t use strikes as a collective bargaining tool. The MSPB was made to pacify federal workers and offer some sort of protection from partisan politics.

So trump just fired the board members so they couldn’t make a quorum, and of course the supreme Court allowed it. They are relying on the fact that most Americans are too comfortable to risk jail time to stand up for their rights.

It’s the oblique route for sure, but could be just as effective in the long run. You wouldn’t have to actually overturn the legal concept of gay marriage, while at the same time being able to prevent gay marriage from happening in the future.

You just have to empower the position with the power to deny access to a marriage license and then fill those positions with people who don’t think it should exist. With one ruling you could potentially make it legal to deny gay people marriages, deny women the right to a divorce, or whatever insanely bigoted shit religious people dream up.

This can’t be true… Businesses wouldn’t reshape their entire portfolios, spending billions of dollars on a technology with limited to no utility. Ridiculous.

Yep, what we consider to be level is relative to what you use to establish an axial plane.

Yes, some people naturally have better 3d spatial awareness. You can also train your eyes to be better over time. I work in orthotics and prosthetics and have to sculpt positive models of different body parts. We also have to do GAIT analysis where we have to observe the angle of different joints while a patient ambulates.

Some people are just better at it than others starting out, especially if they have prior similar experience. I teach a lot of residents and have noticed that students that have a background in art or construction tend to have a better eye for angles. A lot of it is just practicing by observing different angles compared to something that is known to be square.

I have also trained people who never seem to be able to improve their ability to see angles, which is a big hindrance in their careers. A lot of schools actually have students take a spacial awareness test before students begin studying in the field.
