Bluesky is a lot easier to use fresh out of the box. Even though their feature set is quite similar, Mastadon has a clunky and confusing UI, and still lacks a native iPad app-- instead they offer a poorly ported iPhone app.
That’s led to more people using Bluesky, and it snowballs from there.

When my mother got breast cancer, my Facebook page suddenly filled up with ads for laetrile and quack clinics across the border in Mexico. Even though I know better, I might have grasped at straws had it come to that. Thankfully it didn’t, but I love my mother and Facebook was happy to sell that vulnerability to advertisers.
And the thing is, I had never posted about it. My two sisters had used the chat feature to discuss it, and FB made the connection.
That was the moment that privacy and encryption became important to me. Most encryption services have probably been infiltrated by the feds to some degree, and I can live with that. It’s the corporations I want to hide from.

Comedian Ron White used to tell a story about being arrested for public intoxication, saying “I had the right to remain silent, I just didn’t have the ability.”

Barack Obama had a lot of great ideas, but I think people have forgotten how many times he gave up without a fight. His motto seemed to be, “We can’t win, so why try.” I really blame him for the demoralized Democratic base that stayed home and allowed Donald Trump’s win.
Harris needs to fight for progressive ideals, even if she doesn’t always bring home a victory.
It doesn’t bother me that it’s made in China, it bothers me that it’s shipping from China.
I’m careful to check now, but in the past I’ve accidentally ordered products through Amazon that were actually third-party China-based corporations. More often than not I didn’t get the product and had to jump through hoops to get a refund.
I’m considering it, but I’m leery of a pre-order from China.
I would use it primarily as an e-reader and a chat client. I use a desktop for my heavy duty computing.
I love the split-screen feature.
