I stand corrected, lol.

I stand corrected, lol.

It’s smaller, but more personable. It’s full of neurodivergent, queer, and tech oriented people. It has its own inside jokes—you will want to read up on beans.
Overall, I have enjoyed the experience. Sometimes, I have been surprised when people can’t detect obvious jokes or sarcasm, but then I remember how many people here are neurodivergent and try to reply with something kind and straightforward so we’re on the same page.
People tend to be very leftist compared to the rest of the internet, so it’s good to remember that the opinions here are not always representative of the world at large.
A huge chunk of Lemmy is German, and that part of the community remains a total mystery to me because I don’t speak German. They seem cool from afar.
Which communities you are able to see depends pretty heavily on which instance is your home base—I’m with DB0, and we federate with pretty much everyone who isn’t doing something detestably illegal, but LemmyWorld is much more exclusive with who they federate with, so their users don’t see the same instances that I do. Pick a home instance that fits you best because it will matter a lot as you find communities.
You will see interactions between communists and anarchists. Try to remember that you don’t have to comment on everything you might disagree with.
Welcome to the Fediverse—we’re happy to have you.

I try to avoid them as much as possible, usually.
I’m not saying he’s unusual for a 13 year old, just that writing articles about him like he’s a progressive silver bullet seems to be off the mark.

In my opinion, part of that attitude is a valid criticism. Republicans are good at constructing messages that appeal to the emotional and instinctual parts of the brain. A lot of democrats have been stuck in a pattern of indignation and admonishing, which is what I detect in this kids videos.
If you look at the last two promising progressive campaigns, they were ones that also figured out how to appeal to emotionality. Obama overcame a major establishment competitor with Hope, Change, and pop art. Bernie did better than any leftist has ever done by focusing on a battle against the elites that must be waged before it is too late.
It seems like the rallying cry is more effective for swing voters and nonvoters than intellectual outrage is.

I agree with most of his points, but there is something about his delivery that I find a little obnoxious. I’m not sure he is going to effectively change people’s minds as much as he just appeals to the intellectual liberal crowd.

Do you ask for the sources every time?

But you can’t see the source of the information, which means it could be a reputable source, or it could be Joe-Sucks-His-Own-Dick from Reddit. In another comment, I pointed out that AI was telling people to put glue on pizza to keep the cheese from falling off—if you can see the source, you are much more likely to understand the veracity of the information.

Not trusting Chat-GPT results, which are known to hallucinate false information, as your primary search method is a silly take? AI was telling people to put glue on pizza to keep the cheese from falling off. If you can see that the source of that information is a Reddit shitpost, you are way more likely to make a good judgment call about the veracity of that information.
If you want searches without sponsored results, use SearXNG or an equivalent that strips out the ads.

Talk about being part of the problem.

So you want to sleep with your fiancée? I feel like I’m missing something. That is pretty normal.
“If I see you on the street, I’ll shoot you.”

I’m starting to question the legitimacy of this publication.

I was not only talking about property crime, I was talking about throwing smoke bombs and rocks at the police.
Which, once again, I think is an entirely justified thing to do. My position hasn’t changed either, I suppose. I saw violent stuff, I think the violence is justified.

Well, when I first brought it up in this thread, I was responding to someone else and it was relevant. Now you and I seem to be locked in some sort of pointless back and forth where I keep feeling like you are interpreting my words to be the opposite of what I’m saying half the time, and then you respond with either a question or another misinterpretation.
We may be stuck here until the end of the universe at this rate.

The end result is just me repeating things that are still available to see on YouTube. I’m not breaking any news here.

You seem to think I’m making disparaging comments about the protestors. I fully support them and think they are entirely justified in using any means necessary to repel the illegal forces of government that are violating the rights of citizens.
I am only relaying what I have witnessed live through a camera lens, not casting judgment against them.

It was the smoke bombs and rocks that I consider violent, but I also think it is justified. Pacifist methods of resistance have been playing into the desires of the ruling class for a long time.

I mean, I actually think it is very possible to be more white than Italians—they weren’t even considered white in America until the last 100 years or so.
Why would Debian be unacceptable?
