IRC doesn’t handle being disconnected. That’s why matrix has essentially replaced it
I have bought a few otherwise hard to find books on Amazon. Actual paper books. At least used to be possible.

1·6 months agoIf all the settings and versions match, my first suspicion would be that there’s some library available on one system that gets used but not the other. Have you taken very verbose logs to see if there’s differences that stand out?

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Are there any use-case for those SSDs with hardware-based encryption? Is it a good idea to use one of those over software-based encryption?
2·8 months agoThat’s almost always false unless the hardware is faster and thus more power hungry and hot than your CPU. That’s rarely true. Some fpga accelerator? Maybe. GPU/TPU? Sure. Your hard drive? Not a chance that it would have even remotely competitive processor.
The point of hardware acceleration is usually that your CPU doesn’t need to do a task so there’s less CPU load and it can spend that time running applications or respond faster.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Everyone loves reading documentation, what are some of your favourites?
1·1 year agoI think datasheets for components are often pretty great. At least the old ones with good application information and all that.
Then again, for a modern MCU or something there’s several books worth of information, so it won’t be on one document any more.

“All parts of the computer should fit together easily and without force. By all means, do not use a hammer!”
But seriously, some old UNIX workstation and server manuals come to mind as there’s no mention of Microsoft anywhere. Just a good description of how the computer is actually supposed to be used.
Also home computer manuals and some hifi and lab equipment manuals which came with full schematics and measurement and calibration procedures. They essentially gave all users the maintenance manual and not just the dumb user one.

91·1 year agoHypothetically the hardware could have been modified, but that would take some insane level of a determined attacker to be fabricating modified pixels just to sell them on the used market.

101·1 year agoAlso unlockable and presumably has well working builds. It’s not just graphene, but just about every Android project it there that’s best supported on pixels. Other manufacturers have a crazy variety of locking schemes and required tools. Each one is a nightmare to support.

Unlikely. I often forget it exists. If I didn’t think about a friend or relative wanting to send a message, I’d probably leave it on a table or something until I need to take a picture or note or look something up. And then it would probably be out of battery.

Everything generally is.
