Yep, google will be able to read your notifications. Which is why I only let things I don’t care about google seeing use the sandboxed google play. Things like games, etc. I use Proton but no notifications for email (and yes I know about the CEO and Trump). That’s more invasive so I just manually check my Proton inbox. You get used to workarounds. I also use a bogus gmail account not tied to me, fake name, dob, phone number, etc. I used juicySMS for it.

Things don’t crash on me. But bank apps may not work, they usually use play protect and apps with that may not work. Also you will not have root access, it has to do with security but certain apps like titanium backup need root to work. I’ve heard seed vault (built-in backup) isn’t that great but I haven’t used it. I like GrapheneOS, the only annoying thing for me is the lack of notifications for certain apps. That’s pretty much how it goes when you don’t use google on your phone. My workaround is using a separate work profile that has sandboxed google play for apps that I need notifications for.

Ask for help on the Grapheneos matrix channel. I do not have this problem on mine but they are more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff.

Also unless you use google services, you won’t get notifications if you do this (use the at rest encryption with passphrase).

I’m female and bi and it is definitely noticeable when someone is staring at my chest and it is very uncomfortable. When I was younger there were certain guys that rarely looked me in my face and were just looking at my chest the whole time. I asked other girls about it and they agreed they too felt them gazing at their chests and it was really uncomfortable and off-putting for them as well. If you wanna help then tell them discreetly to tighten their bra straps. Otherwise I don’t find it acceptable to stare at a woman’s chest. A glance maybe but you should really be looking at their faces. People are not meat or eye candy, don’t objectify them, just remember the person they are inside. There may be women ok with it and like flaunting it but that’s not been my personal experience.

It was account level, if I went offline then the other person would get a notification from steam that said something like “Hooray, X’s shared games are now available for you to play!”

If you’re talking about the new steam families beta then yes that is when it was changed to be game level not account level.

Maybe, but I was thinking how back then if I wanted to borrow Spore or Oblivion from a friend then I could physically trade the discs with them. Nowadays it is more acceptable for everyone to have their own computer or gaming system assuming there aren’t financial constraints. My new problem with the new Steam Families is that it limits you to one group of 6 people and you have to wait an entire year after leaving a family to create or join a new one. Supposedly what initially made me pissed off enough to pirate again has been fixed.

I think you misunderstand family share. I’ve used it and it’s basically if you share with someone else then whenever you are online and playing any one of your games then the other person cannot play any of your other games. So you’re playing game A, well the other person can’t play game B, C, D, E, etc. from your library. That’s what anon is talking about. Steam is introducing Steam Families that is supposed to fix it but I haven’t tried it since I gave up on family sharing long before it was announced, I went back to pirating to share games.

I also would rather manage what I block or federate to. I hate that Lemmy enables instances to have too much control over its users, deciding what you can and cannot see and admins can see your PMs too. I got fed up with Lemmy.world because of their federation fuckups, why would communities that talk about piracy but don’t link to anything cause an admin to get sued? They won’t, reddit allows more piracy talk than Lemmy.world does lmao. Obviously Nintendo searches through the fediverse for anyone even saying they pirated stuff, right guys?! Nah I just don’t care for their admins. I usually dont agree with whatever their admins say, I even saw someone from world complain about Lemmy.world policies on their thread and the user got their account deleted by an admin with a nice smug response from them. I can’t have my own instance since I don’t have the money to spare, otherwise I would since it is BS that Lemmy doesn’t allow users to have the same control over their feed as an admin.

This is definitely a con of Lemmy for me. I like to be more privacy focused but Lemmy gives you 0 privacy on whatever you do on the website. Anyone who wants more privacy on Lemmy is told you have no right to privacy, don’t expect any privacy, everything you do is public on the internet, etc. A massive boner killer for me. I think basic things like deleting your own post or comments should actually get removed from all servers, PMs should not be viewable by anyone except the recipients, and what you vote on or subscribe to should be private. Lemmy doesn’t sell your data but that’s because anyone can take the data for free. I thought this stuff was because Lemmy is still new and will get to it eventually but the push back seems to say this was a choice or is not broken. I ended up exploring different social media alternatives but I like the style of Lemmy better since it is more reddit-like with an active user base plus has different android clients. I don’t like kbin because it shows who upvoted or downvoted something to everyone - it’s not accountability when it erodes your privacy.

I used to comment on Lemmy more but then I ran into this problem when juggling multiple accounts, Liftoff sucks ass at letting you know which account you are logged into (I use Summit now and it is better at it) so I ended up getting my accounts’ wires crossed when I thought using the drop down on your accounts changed your account but no you have to go to manage instances to switch which was not intuitive. I ended up abandoning the accounts when I couldn’t figure out how to actually delete the post from the server.

Edit: man I wish I saw this sooner, might be time for me to either stop posting again or look somewhere else.

I have to agree. I considered Standard Notes but I would have to pay for super notes in order to use images, even if I self-host. Same for code blocks, organizing notes into folders, spreadsheets, web clipper. Have to get the most expensive plan for offline access and being able to have local backups, although it is discounted if you self-host completely but why still pay a sub at that point? I would rather pay once and then be able to self-host using their super notes without paying more every month.

I liked Obsidian but wanted encryption that works on my android so I went with Joplin.
