  • So the Republicans get a lot of fast food from a lot of places, while the Democrats seem to avoid major chains altogether, and when they do get fast food they go for restaurants that (in my opinion) are the most extremely overpriced and worst value (chipotle, panera).

The Republicans also seem to have a particular fixation in chick fil a, which is not surprising given that they campaign more in the south, CFA is typically a bit cheaper than other fast food, and it’s not maligned by Republicans like it still is by many progressives.

  • Yeah. No.

As much as science knows anything, it knows that having too much body fat is bad for your health. Even the article you just linked states weight loss as its goal.

BMI is a crappy measure of body fat, fair; bodybuilders and athletes often have very high BMIs while having very little fat, but it’s not “arbitrary” either. Doesn’t matter much, since we have tools to measure body fat percentage directly. No need to use BMI at all.

Also note that article says to eat less “processed” food, but doesn’t explain what that actually means. Is bread processed? How about a salad? How much dressing do I have to add to lettuce before it counts as “processed”? No answers here.

There’s something to be said for the caloric availability of any given food, but it’s pretty silly to say that you shouldn’t consider them at all. People who are trying to lose weight need some measure of how much they’re eating so they can be sure they’re eating less. Until we have a better one, calories aren’t going anywhere.

As for exercise, it is definitely important, but it simply isn’t realistic to out-train a bad diet. It’s not at all reasonable to say that exercise is more important for weight loss, and anyone who’s actually lost a ton of weight will tell you as much.

  • She clearly and concisely responded the questions she was obviously going to be asked. You may disagree with the answers, or you may just not like politicians, but she was obviously prepared and professional.

Donald rambled, lied, and went off topic constantly. He spent more time talking about what Kamala said than his own policy. When he was pressed on policy he had unclear answers or dodged entirely (e.g. “concepts of a plan”).

He came across as unhinged, bordering on detached from reality, and he seemingly doesn’t have any plan or vision for the country, except that it definitely isn’t project 2025 (except it probably is). He was undeniably more interesting to watch, but not in a good way. Based purely on the debate from last night it’s not clear if he’s fit to lead a book club, let alone a nuclear superpower.
