Privacy@lemmy.ml•What VPN do you use to hide traffic from your ISP?
261·2 years agoI use Mozilla VPN, which is just Mullvad but more expensive. I want to support Mozilla though and enjoy the integration with my multi account containers so i stick with it

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[Serious] How do you smoke weed indoors without odor
3·2 years agoWhen I smoked I’d use an air purifier, with a window open and fan running, as well as using a sploof (slang for this might be different where ur from) and sometimes burning a candle. All those combined and being sure to dispose of your ash quickly should reduce the smell. Your best option is a dry herb vape though, and that’s better for your health too
Sugar alternatives like allulose and monkfruit have been making my life so much better recently. A little more pricey than sugar, but so much better for you and allows me to keep enjoying a sweet cup of tea in the morning without any of the downsides

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the definition of capitalism? Is it compatible with people owning the things they produce?English
253·2 years agoCapitalism is a socioeconomic system in which private individuals (capitalists) own the means of production and employ others to work them. The employer exploits the employed through wage labor, a system in which the surplus value of a laborer is taken as profit for the capitalist. Capitalism is often characterized by market relations and generalized commodity production, but there are always exceptions as in any system.

Linux@lemmy.ml•My little brother loves the dualboot setup I installed for him. He says "It's like iOS"
10·2 years agoIt’s true, I’m somebody who has run DIY distros daily for years and decided to try out Debian on a spare computer recently. I couldn’t even update the system after the initial install. It took me like forty minutes to find a thread which explained to me that Debian 12 has a bug with some raspi firmware that requires you to delete three files before apt will work, and there is 0 indication on the paths themselves, just people who have figured it out and were generous enough to share the knowledge. You can’t blame new users for those things, we as a community need to improve the software and the attitudes

I wear one every day with only a few exceptions (lab work for university where it’s impractical and I’m only around a few people anyway). I have seen the effects of long Covid on my loved ones, and i want nothing to do with that. Still haven’t caught COVID this far in, and while I think my vaccinations have been effective it makes me uncomfortable that we aren’t continuing to boost and that most people haven’t had a fresh vaccine in a few years at this point. Waning efficacy is a real thing and many never got boosted at all
Flatpak is fantastic. I think containerization is definitely the future of Linux app distribution, because the security and portability are so much better than native packages. Flatpak is the best implementation of this concept IMO, because it has a robust permission management system, is completely open unlike snap, and is performant with fast load times, solid deduplication of dependencies, and no garbage loopback devices
Same but with startpage (!sp) because it queries google anonymously
