The developer of Pixelfed - an Instagram-alike (and now Loops.video - a TikTok like platform) announced that he is working on an ActivityPub messaging service called “Sup.” There’s nothing else really known about it except that he’s developing it. AP would actually work fairly well as a messaging protocol aside from the lack of end-to-end encryption, but that too is being worked on.
Thanks for digging those up! I figured it was somewhere around that range. I’ve had it be fairly accurate within a couple feet, but I’ve also had Bluetooth proximity show much further.
Does Yunohost use containers like CasaOS? I’ve been using CasaOS for miscellaneous home stuff, but I can’t explain or justify it, I just don’t like containers.
Anyone know what kind location accuracy Bluetooth 5 currently has?
Perhaps lower the contrast a bit? Use some gray and charcoal color? Presently it looks like what I see when I have migraine aura… and I don’t intend that to be mean or anything!
I agree with you, people end up going the perceived “easy route” because of the amount of explaining and low level protocol exposure that they receive from someone who is trying to sell them on joining an ActivityPub network. And that’s just the people who are trying to encourage them to join, then there’s the people that straight up think “normal social media” people don’t belong on the fediverse because of one biased reason or another…
I was just wondering if that still existed a few days ago. Glad to know it does. I like knowing the impossible is attainable.
“USB 4 2.0”… someone should really do something about the incredibly goofy naming scheme.
It is more complicated than that. There are multiple different server components that make up Bluesky and its federation. The PDS (Person Data Server) is what they’re mostly talking about in that press release. You can however run all three major server components yourself and setup a completely separate network that would then federate with Bluesky proper. It’s quite different to Mastodon and other ActivityPub services (where you setup a Mastodon, Lemmy, WriteFreely, etc… instance and then federate).
Still, at present it does feel a little pointless.
Oh wow, that’s really cool! I’ll definitely take it for a spin. I’ve been thinking that something like this would be great.
From what I’ve read of this, it’s basically already done. The developer is just waiting for AT Protocol federation. I’m not sure how to feel about how it works though, it’s got some quirks because of the differences in the protocols.
I like your example there a lot, I’m going to use that in the future when I’m trying to express that notion. In the past I’ve never been able to articulate that exact concept. So thanks!
I miss the days of lickable Mac OS X as well. Been meaning to set up a virtual machine to run Tiger or something.
I have the same issue with solarized. I find a totally black background with light gray text to be the best for me. It’s funny, I’ve had migraines my whole life and yet I ended up working with screens and screens are an integral part of my hobbies.
I had completely forgotten about that particular method of file delivery. I wonder how many other things I don’t remember as well?
But that’s true of any network connected messaging protocol, making sure a message is delivered could be implemented client side. The issue with AP objects not making it to other clients / servers is more about federation discovery.
