Yeah it’s great because even without a make plugin, you can just add your make command to the vscode actions that’ll run your makefile.
Or even better, get the plugin which will auto populate targets from the makefile lol

In theory yes since they’re essentially sponsored by RedHat. (RedHat is owned by IBM)
Which is funny because the Snowden leaks actually showed the NSA likes using Fedora for their fancy spy tech lol.
I guess a good alternative would be OpenSUSE.
Shared this before, but someone I know did a chmod on /bin which nuked all the SUID/GUID bits which borked the system lol.
Surpsingly easy enough to undo by getting a list of the correct perms from a working system, but hilarious nonetheless
Onion chose literally the most inopportune time to revive itself, their poor writers have been working constant overtime to stay ahead of reality lol. Trump already outdid his first 4 year term in only a couple of months.
Yeah okay pack it in boys, we’re screwed lol.
Why even bother to run a primary at this point? Just let the DNC select their candidate so we can skip out on the 6 months of sham and shilling.
Also told all yall we need progressives to split from DNC and form a fresh 3rd party bruh.
OEM interoperability/functionality guarantee
The last big game dev holdouts will agree to target Linux if the PC userbase jumps significantly and Valve guarantees a standard expectation with technology with things like rolling kernel, latest libs, steam functionality, etc.
There’s still a lot of stupidly annoying things that are missing like proper wayland (valve->frog) and its resultant features like HDR, VRR, etc.
The linux packaging problem from 20 years ago is still a problem (albeit much less) which Torvalds himself mentioned Valve would just say “screw it” and bypass/solve the problem via Steam (which they did). The issue is the remainder. Kernel updates are all over the place depending on distro. Everything Ubuntu is technically out of date because SteamOS uses Arch. Fedora gets you closer at least.
It’s really just that OEM guarantee that would get it moving quicker. Although it might not even happen tbh, Valve said they weren’t that interested in competing against Microsoft which makes sense because its still the primary OS of their customer base.
Dependencies:
Old ass library version from 2004
apt/dnf/pacman: package not found
library package was last available 15 years ago before it was dropped to move to the next legacy version
App package was available right up until last year until it was dropped for development inactivity
Absolutely no one has a compiled version of old ass library
Attempting to compile old ass library results in 30 other old ass package dependencies
How in the actual world was the maintainer compiling this up to last year
Even worse is finding a rejected pull request that would have added the exact feature you need.
good experience on Windows
Windows 7 was the last time I had that experience lol
I swear there was some movie that actually showed off kali or its predecessor backtrack, but now I can’t remember
Also iirc the main control computer on elysium was a unix prompt and I’m pretty sure it showed some SQL adding citizens from Earth lol.
That already exceeds the Bosnian genocide by more than 10,000 people.
Poettering worked for Red Hat from 2008 to 2022.[2][3] He then joined Microsoft.
In 2017, Poettering received the Pwnie Award for Lamest Vendor Response to vulnerabilities reported in systemd.
This Mastodon stream from Lennart Poettering describes a sudo replacement — called run0 — that will be part of the upcoming systemd 256 release. It takes a rather different approach to the execution of privileged commands, avoiding the use of setuid (which he calls “SUID”) permissions entirely.
Basically Microsoft bloat confirmed, everyone switch back to OpenRC lol
Compiz, XFCE, and GNOME <40 (now Cinnamon and MATE) proved quality UI design 15+ years ago.
It is actually insulting to Linux desktop that the default DE on the top distros don’t even have minimize and expand buttons by default, and that any extra features require DE plugins.
GNOME 40+ is like Wayland. Years of development for practically no real user improvements. Every update shows off features DEs had over a decade ago.
GNOME 47’s first listed big change is accent colors. wtf??? What the f*** do you think we’ve been using GTK and Qt for???
At least with KDE, the ram usage is justified. GNOME eats system resources just to give you a shitty ChomeOS UI that feels just as cheap.
The moment XFCE ports to Wayland, I’ll happily swap Compiz for Wayfire and use my computer like a normal person.
Unified system for popping tabs in and out as windows like a browser (mixed support).
Session handler for tying tabs into screen or tmux (you can do this by yourself, but it’s only useful sometimes).
“Accidentally”
Because people definitely can miss the big bold NEATGEAR logo and the clearly not a console shaped box with 16 Ej45 ports slapped on the front lol.
Happens all the time.
Usually TF2 is up here too depending on the seasonal update rotation.
I swear I am so close to jumping into the void of mainline linux on phones.
The only main issue is device drivers, but I would be fine happily extracting them from android or making new ones. Modern Android is a complete full stack POS.
KDE for best fully integrated, out of box, modern DE.
XFCE + Compiz if you’re running on lower end hardware (uses less ram and utilizes gpu better). Also if you want even more customization than KDE with the drawback of limited SVG support (and still on X11 if that matters for you)
GNOME if you hate yourself and want to use a knockoff of ChromeOS or Mac.
Cinnamon and MATE if you want to see when GNOME used to be good.
LXQt is the XFCE equivalent of KDE, but is now on wayland with GPU accel, so it can fit the same area as XFCE+Compiz.
Wayfire (compositor) basically Compiz for Wayland if you want all the fancy effects on anything that uses wayland.
JVM and Android
dalvikART are still alive and well because if we could use clown circus Javascript to run WWW for 30 years, we sure as hell can use “My Big Fat Gabrage Collector: The Boilerplate Saga” to run all of our applications and backend infrastructure.
