Being the single OS that has had a chokehold on the prebuilt computer industry for ages doesn’t mean it’s popular. It’s also used in tons of workplaces where people don’t have a choice. High number doesn’t automatically correlate to “popular.”

Windows is basically malware now. My wife is forced to use W11 for work and she fucking hates it with a passion (and that’s the pared down IT version).

I pulled out my old gaming laptop that had been unplugged for quite a while and found it somehow updated itself to W11. I immediately wiped the computer and installed Nobara as the main OS. No regrets, no issues, and no half-assed bullshit.

Windows on the ASUS ROG Ally is absolute dog shit. It would constantly reboot to install unwanted updates that offered zero value on a handheld (let alone anything).

Nothing I own will ever run Windows.

Windows isn’t popular. It’s forced onto tons of prebuilt computers and most people wouldn’t know what to use instead. Fuck Windows. Rant over.

I’ve been playing it on the Deck for the past couple weeks and it runs really well. I think the only thing I changed was UI text size (made it larger). It will hit some slight FPS drops in places, but it’s a manageable dip and doesn’t affect gameplay.

There might be a Decky plugin that allows you to send alerts likes that.

It’s only Chinese surveillance and censorship when you don’t use an open source fork of DeepSeek, which is not possible with OpenAI or any of the other US-based big names. There’s already versions of DS that remove the telemetry and censorship. So it becomes a moot point for one and an unsolvable problem for the others.

Edit: I can’t find one that mentions removal or blocking of telemetry, but this one removes the censorship mechanism. Point still stands. Your data is out there with whoever your AI provider is. It’s part of why I don’t use AI for anything sensitive or important.

All AI does this. It just becomes more obvious that this is tired old anti-China propaganda because we don’t see similar articles for OpenAI and other US-based AI tools.

The difference is that OpenAI is closed-source so you never know what it’s actually doing, and DeepSeek being open source means the data being sent can be seen, and the mechanisms can be removed.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and that applies to tech. I pay for Proton and this is disappointing af but not shocking. Corporations and wannabe billionaires always fold to fascism.

Gonna start looking around at alternative email services to consider but I use my Proton email everywhere, so switching away is going to suck.

If I see a game with this many yellow flags on the store page, I bail. I do the same when I see it’s an EA game because they can EAt shit.

Also, BF2042 is fucking horrendous. That game killed the series for me.

I have the original Steam controller still in a box. I didn’t like it at the time, but others seem to love it. I’m wondering if I should dig it out and give it another try, or did another iteration come out that improved on it?

The inability to download from their servers means that players are eating up refund time sitting around waiting. So now there are players that haven’t even gotten to play yet and can’t get a refund through Steam.

I swear companies are just fucking trolling us at this point.

Wouldn’t it be better to at least put a modicum of effort in to have some privacy, than to put zero effort in and have none at all?
