  • or make the parents be the casinos’ first line bouncers

Or, you know, we could just have bouncers on site. Such as a system which asks you to prove you’re older than 13 before you’re allowed to access it.

I mean, this sure is a lot of pontificating and wondering about how the legal system could ever handle such an absurdly vague and difficult task when it already seems to be doing that.

I’m going to invoke a comparison here that you’re not going to like very much. I promise, you shouldn’t take it personally.

I have had 1,000 arguments with fascists who looove tilting this way and that about how philosophically undefinable their behavior is. Zeno’s paradox, the ship of theseus, what really is a “casino” anyway? I’ll tell you this: I’m fine with 80% success. “Oh, but what if someone who is 19 but doesn’t have an ID is rejected by the system? They won’t be allowed to play. :(” Uh, that sucks for them. Oh well. I guess they’ll have to go back to Atelier Ryza.

I have too little power to do that,

    Damn, that sucks for you.

  • but what can you do? lawmakers wont make laws …

    You elect lawmakers.

just let me remind you that that happens offline, and it is provable if copies are not preserved.

    Fascinating.

if someone cannot properly configure their phones, then they need to be made liable

So, this is exactly the problem I have with you and the other person. It’s this contempt you have for your fellow people. It’s extremely selfish. This isn’t how you talk to your neighbors. You’re not getting invited to any cookouts or block parties with this attitude.

If you and I can agree that children shouldn’t be in casinos, then they shouldn’t be allowed into the casino. I am open to your suggestions.

  • No, you’re making it one to sidestep an issue.

If this bad parenting happens often enough to be a real problem, then whining into the wind that “no one has any common sense anymore,” or whatever you’re doing, isn’t a solution.

I do blame the game a little because it’s a game that really, really, really wants you to spend money on diamond gem funbucks.

Let me ask you this question, hm? You don’t want to show your ID even though we all do that for alcohol—fine. Why not: $80 up front, all banners are periodic DLCs, some of them free, there is more than enough korok seeds in game to get all of them, and they never expire—infinite time to twiddle your thumbs before completing them. Would this not solve your ID problem?

That is, unless you would like to spearhead this global movement to teach underprivileged parents how to configure their phones?

  • This might seem like an odd thing to say, but it seems too well-made for stick figure art. It’s too perfect, but for seemingly no reason. It’s got no verve, no life to it, but its lines are so perfect that it’s weird it doesn’t have those things, you know? Someone with this degree of skill wouldn’t make something this boring to look at unless it was part of the joke, but I don’t think it is?

    It’s very strange.

The only person I can imagine drawing this manually is, like, an office worker who has this idea for a joke but who also doesn’t really know what memes are on the Internet—like when someone misuses the success baby or something.

  • I was equivocating singular words and entire sentences on purpose.

If you can recombine sentences in interesting ways, into paragraphs that are your own ideas, that isn’t plagiarism. Why would “people can’t construct unique sentences either” be a rebuttal if that’s not what plagiarsm is?

Instead it studies the prior work of humans, finds patterns and combines these in unique and novel ways.

    You’re anthropomorphising.

LLMs are little clink-clink machines that produce the most typical output. That’s how they’re trained. Ten thousand inputs say this image is of a streetlight? That’s how it knows.

The fact an LLM knows what a Lord of Rings is at all means that Tolkien’s words, the images, the sounds, are all encoded in its weights somewhere. You can’t see them, it’s a black box, but they live there.

Could you say the same of the human brain? Sure. I know what a neuron is.

    But, LLMs are not people.

All of that is besides the point, though. I was just floored by how cynical you could be about your own supposed craft.

A photograph of, say, a pretty flower is fantastic. As an enjoyer of art myself, I love it when people communicate things. People can share in the beauty that you saw. They can talk about it. Talk about how the colors and the framing make them feel. But if you’re view is that you’re not actually adding anything, you’re just doing more of what already exists, I really don’t know why you bother.

Nobody has seen every photo in the world.

Okay, assume someone has. Is your art meaningless, then? All of photography is just spectacle, and all the spectacles have been seen?
