7·1 year agoWhen does it happen? I’m 53, and still obsessed with software development and technology in general. Moving to the country sound like it’s nice and quiet, but too far away from urban things I enjoy.

.net isn’t dead, that’s for sure. It’s not the top ecosystem, but it is pretty healthy.
The reasoning it was to not confuse with .net framework 4.x series, and since they went beyond 4.x, it’s just .net now. I believe .net core moniker was to explicitly distinguish is from framework versions.
It didn’t help the confusion at all, tch. Being a .net guy since 1.0, you just figure it out eventually

My ex wife did that with a new bank account years ago with 666 in it. I don’t recall her screaming at anyone, but, it was embarrassing , nonetheless, to watch her go around and around with a banker on the issue.

I never use all caps when I write SQL, not sure why people insist on it so much
1·2 years agoIt is a retirement savings plan that most employers offer. You put money in it from your pay period into it, and it is taken out pre-tax, as in your taxes are calculated from your pay during that period after the retirement deduction is taken out (other things are pre-tax also, but 401k is one of them)

How about a meeting an hour after our daily standup and it’s the CTO and CIO saying “ok is everyone on the call?”
I was telling myself “oh crap, the company is gonna shut down”
5 minutes later “So as of this very moment, everyone stop working. The company is officially closed as of this meeting.”
We were a start up essentially. Made it almost 9 years with ups and downs. This all happened at the end of July. At least got 3 month severance and insurance covered. I do start a new job Tuesday.

I use windows 11 pro, and I don’t see any of these ads anywhere ever. Is that something the home versions only do? Did I turn off some setting proactively at setup that prevents the ads?
I believe it is cumulative.
