Meh. Mint does remove most of Ubuntu’s corporate crap, but its update system is still based on Ubuntu’s sources but just far enough removed to cause new issues. I’d rather switch to Debian. I actually already have Debian installed in parallel, it’s just that actually configuring it with all the non-default bits and pieces of my Ubuntu install is a pain in the ass.
How exactly am I going to do that without completely reinstalling?
Other than massive breakage, I’m not sure. Completely reinstalling and reconfiguring my setup is a pain in the ass, in part because of my slow internet connection. But damn if Ubuntu isn’t trying to find out.
Which distro are you using? AMD has been completely plug-and-play for me.
Sure feels like that sometimes, LOL
A 16:9 screen is basically two squares side by side, so instead of making a big square they can just make the landscape monitor bigger until it’s large enough that you can comfortable view two documents side-by-side. I definitely prefer 16:10 or 3:2, though.
Yeah. Someone has to put in the work for packaging an application if you want it as a .deb/.rpm etc. package and deal with any bugs that might come up, and it’s not going to be me (speaking as a user, not a developer).
That said, I also painted myself into a corner when it comes to harddrive space. LUKS can be complicated, man …
The far right national government certainly isn’t good, but you’re right that it’s probably not that far off from most other big european countries right now. Definitely research the specific region you’re moving to, there are often extremely large differences between regions in european countries when it comes to political leanings, general tolerance and economic opportunities and it’s not always as clear-cut as “big cities good, countryside bad” or “north good, south bad”.
Considering the way MAGA voters act …
First we’d need to define “internet” for this purpose. Does classic mail qualify? It certainly can carry more data than pidgeons, and if you can still have computers you might get relatively close to the 90s internet by sending data by mail (especially when you’re communicating with people within a day’s travel, rather than on the other side of the earth).
Other than that, you can do a lot with visual signals. In the Discworld novels, they developed a kind of optical telegraph network with a technique that is somewhat similar to ship flag communication, and optical telegraphy exists/existed in the real world, too, though it never got much traction. If you have computers, you might be able to get pretty alright data rates with something like that.
I made a shell script titled “update”, it updates system packages, flatpaks and python packages. Too many lines for an alias for my tastes.
Vivec?
Don’t most people have Whatsapp? It’s certainly harder to spy on the content of your messages, it’s just a matter of how much issue you have with giving Meta your metadata.
I mean, give me a knife or screwdriver and it’s equal, but anything that requires extensive practice for basic competence is naturally going to be become focused on one hand (e.g. handwriting) or a specific combination of hands (e.g. you need two hands to play guitar, but people will generally learn to play it either righthanded or lefthanded and suck at the other one regardless of how ambidexterous they are).
I remember frequently telling my mother to stop smoking, hiding her cigarettes and the like (that was in elementary school). She still smokes, I never started.
I wonder where I got that from. I don’t think we talked about that in school so early, and I didn’t have like The Talk about drugs at home.
Yay. Chili flakes are great, too.
BTW, the worst pizza I ever had was served in Italy. Absolutely drowned in oil.
You’ll catch some flies (and various other insects) with fly paper. The good thing is that it doesn’t smell.
Never heard of houseflies going for vinegar, AFAIK that’s for fruit flies (and even that is rather tricky IME).
I know.
