  • This is how my tech interview went this week. For every question the panel had I returned a battle story. They were laughing and serious at the same time. Bagged it!

But… HR stuck their nose in and wants their guy interviewed. So now I have to wait a week for them to (hopefully) say, “Thanks but we’re going with Shalafi71.”

  • Been on Gmail since it was invite only. It really is best in class. Hate on Google all ya like, but they got a lock on email early in the game.

And for those that think getting away from it is a matter of choosing another email provider, I’ll say that Gmail does loads more than deliver email. Authentication is a huge and obvious use. Reading comments around here leads me to believe that many don’t understand Google for Business and how integrated an org can be with those services.

Another note, just because the domain isn’t gmail.com doesn’t mean it isn’t served by Google. For most companies it would be insane to host their own services and cheaper to let Google handle it all.

  • Buddy of mine picked up old washers and dryers for free or close enough. Fixed and flipped 'em on eBay marketplace. Made several hundred a week.

The genius is that those appliances are easy to work on and usually have compatible parts. I went over to get a part from him and there were only 2 that fit all American washers.

I used to pick up vacuum cleaners on my paper route. Got stoned at night and cleaned them, maybe added a new belt and bag, perfect. Sold for $20 a pop. (This was in the 90s).

Another friend used to go out with her husband early on trash days and pick up free stuff by the road. Had a garage sale every Saturday, 6-7 hours tops, made $300-$400. “We take our neighbor’s trash and sell it back to them!”
