I don’t watch Linus’ videos that often, and I don’t know the names of the people working for him. But from what is stated on that series of tweets, seems to be straight up harassment / gender discrimination.
Anyway it’s good that it’s surfacing, but I hope that it doesn’t escalate any more as a drama, because it seems like they have a fairly toxic community, and the one that’s always being targeted are the ex-employees.

I’ve never used ChatGPT, so I don’t know if there’s an offline version. So I assume everything that you typed in, is in turn used to train the model. Thus, using it will probably leak sensitive information.
Also from what I read is that, the replies are convincing enough, but could sometimes be very wrong, thus if you’re using it for machineries, medical stuff, etc, it could end up fatal.

I’m expecting this weakening of encryption / surveillance is to protect rich people by preemptively punishing dissidents who are organizing against them. It’s the step that authoritarian countries like China, Saudi, etc have been using against their own people, either with sweeping regulations, or just straight up buying pegasus spyware.
I think some of the problematic instances have been defederated, IIRC there’s a large japanese instance that was defederated long time ago due to child abuse content. But still since I’ve been seeing increases of hate speech and dog whistling misogyny and homophobia in some instances, I won’t be surprised if CSAM stuff has been trading under our noses.
The main issue is that, with so many users nowadays and small moderation teams, especially in the larger instances, it’s hard to moderate and tackle CSAM problems effectively. I really wish larger instances would limit user registrations or start splitting off into smaller manageable ones.
Also, since they are trading using certain hashtags, blocking those hashtags might not be a bad idea.
After Louis pinned and liked an anti masker comment under on of his videos and moving to Texas where the comment section on his video is starting to be filled by pro-gun right wingers and free speech absolutists, I stopped watching his content altogether.
That might not be his intention, but his libertarian views sure attracts certain crowds.

I thought the labels on potential COVID or election disinformation were pretty good, until companies stopped doing so.
Why not do that again? Those who are gonna claim that it’s censorship, will always do so. But, what’s needed to be done is to prevent those who are not well informed to fall into antivax / far-right rabbit hole.
Also, force content creators / websites to prominently show who are funding / paying them.

Why not just subscribe to them yourself? Some reasons I could think of:
Obsidian.md, you need to import some community plugins to make it better (e.g. Advanced Tables, Multi Column, etc). But it’s quite fast and powerful, it doesn’t look as pretty as, say Notion, though. I love using it, you can search on youtube for some samples / tutorials, it’s quite easy to use though.
But Mastodon is built on a technology stack almost as old as Twitter’s, and has largely failed to achieve widespread adoption despite several mass-exoduses from Twitter. BlueSky is more promising, using a brand new protocol called AT which promises to let users not only create their own instances of the service, but filter their feeds with custom algorithms, instead of settling for one centrally-controlled “master algorithm” that prioritizes engagement above all else.

Gaming press has been in downward spiral for quite sometime, so this is expected. Even before and without AI replacing them, there have been quite a number of staff cuts recent years, and they have been employing underpaid freelancers for a long time (I remember IGN boasting about paying freelancers above market price, but it is still barely enough for living).
Eventually these companies with AI generated articles will also disappear, not only because the AI is trained on clickbaity data, but also the current trend is people getting their previews / reviews from (sponsored 🤢) youtubers, twitch streamers, or worse tiktokers (how do you fit a review in 30 seconds video?)
And IIRC Jeff Gerstmann mentioned in his podcast that there are some who get into gaming press, as a stepping stone to gaming industry itself, so maybe they will get a job there? I mean many of the older gaming journalists are either taking rotational turn occupying senior positions in IGN, Gamespot, Polygon, Kotaku, or just straight up work for game companies as creative director or PR. So far it seems to work out not so bad for them, except for those in junior / freelancer positions.
Thankfully investigative journalism and long form insight writings are still untouched by AI shenanigans. Beilingcat and ICIJ still writing great stuff. But I have no idea how long it’d last.
As long as it’s a for profit and funded by VCs, then it’s subjected to pressure to chase profit by the investors. And as long as it’s pressured to chase profit, then it wouldn’t want to alienate the sizable far right population.
