Fair warning: it’s likely that your ISP will block attempts at self-hosting a mail server at home.
Wow!
Of all companies, this is one I didn’t expect.
Damn.
Why?
You’re actually asking why?
Because Mark Zuckerberg is a fucking Nazi, just like Trump and Musk.
I don’t say much about it because it’s stupid to argue, but I’ve used a LOT of different desktop interfaces over the past 45+ years (yeah, really!), and GNOME…well, GNOME sucks. When Gnome3 was first released we all had high hopes for it improving on Gnome2 (which for those of us on Unix systems was a huge improvement over CDE), and instead it was buggy, clunky, awkward, and an enormous resource hog. Oh yeah, and it was massively unconfigurable. AND it continued to not improve for many many years, until most people I know switched to KDE or one of the other environments (MATE, Cinnamon, and xfce were very popular).
Gnome 4x added a touchscreen paradigm, whether you had a touchscreen or not, and made the experience worse in the process.
If you like it, great! Use it and love it all you want! I’ll play with it once every year or so just to see if someone has finally designed something that doesn’t suck so badly, but for a functional desktop, no thanks.
I think the fact that most of the ‘fringe’ desktops are well-known in the community because of people trying to escape GNOME is pretty telling.
Christofascists.
That’s how and that’s why.
In Canada, it’s easily A&W.
Again.
The man has been explicitly mimicking Hitler for months now, and every time the media says “woah, can you belive he went that far?” OF COURSE HE DID, BECAUSE HE DID THE SAME THING YESTERDAY!
I get what you’re saying, but it never works like that.
You said it yourself: “I hope reddit exists to…be a breeding ground…” And it will. The worst of humanity will collect and fester and grow in numbers. And what’s going to happen then? Some will spill over to here, and other ‘safe’ communities.
There’s no way we can thrive and simultaneously isolate ourselves from assholery; and by encouraging it to thrive elsewhere, we’re only expanding its power and reach; and at the same time, enriching and empowering asshole billionaires like spez, Zuck, Musk, etc.
No, we need to fight them. We need to wade hip-deep in the shit to shovel it down the drain, rather than hoping it’ll just go away on its own.
Look at it another way: If you have a garden, what happens if you designate one corner as “the weed corner?” It grows, spreads, and takes over the rest of the garden.
Yep, agreed. The biggest problem there is that Meta is generally not making life worse for its users than they’re used to. Facebook and Instagram are giving you almost the same shitty experience you got a decade ago.
Nope.
If you encourage it, it will continue to fester and rot, and the entire internet will lower their expectations.
We need to destroy these companies. We need to smash them to pieces, and hey guess what - it’s going to hurt a bit! We need to be prepared to stand up against evil, corrupt, racist, bigoted robber barons. We need to make some sacrifices to fix the internet.
Burn the fuckers to the ground, and let spez rot in a hole.
It’s true that Qobuz pays more per stream, although I’ve heard that they pay an amalgamated sum to the label instead of direct payment by artist.
Furthermore, while MQA was a bit of a bait-and-switch (basically lossy versions of much higher quality), Tidal always offered pure lossless as well.
Qobuz apparently has a better classical catalog, but worse customer support.
Basically, I’ve found Tidal to be - at this point - a bit ahead of Qobuz. Not a real complaint, just a “if I had to choose…” opinion.
Short summary: Tidal is the best overall.
Balancing the content, quality, and amount paid to artists, I put it on top.
There’s still one protest possible.
LEAVE REDDIT!!! GET THE FUCK OFF OF IT! LET IT DIE. MAKE IT DIE!
Same with twitter.
Mandarin orange slices.
No.
No she did not.
Frankly, I don’t see much of a problem with this.
They’ll sell the “Apple” charging cable for $40 or something fucking insane, but as long as you can buy and use a normal USB-C cable that does exactly the same thing, go for it.
Of course being Apple, they will probably void the warranty or add an identifier to their cables so that nothing else works. In that case, I hope the EU bankrupts them completely.
You misspelled 2026.
Seriously?
Phone the cops. Now.
You do NOT need to post this to every technology group on every Lemmy instance.
None in isolation.
CBC is a pretty reliable go-to although they’re more than a bit pandering these days. BBC is similar. Al Jazeera is pretty reliable for things not related to Islam and Palestine in particular (although they’re not as biased as they could be). AP is fairly neutral. Aside from that, it’s non-legacy Canadian sources like the Walrus and the Tyee, which all have their problems but are good at exposing reality.
