This can absolutely change people’s lives. Paying rent can make it impossible to save for a down payment. A 30k windfall (inheritance) helped my wife and I make the down payment on our first house. And then our mortgage payments were cheaper than our rent was. Even if the overall “sticker price” of a home is higher, it’s a negligible difference over the lifetime of a loan.

I get that this is a joke, but part of the point of that group is that we (white guys) are not exclusively Republicans and/or Trump supporters, we just don’t know how to speak up in a diverse group without fulfilling the expectation of condescension. So we keep quiet and let women, people of color, and lgbtq folks do the talking while we act as allies, votes, and window dressing.
