Linux@lemmy.ml•Which program is the one that surprised you most that it is available on Linux?
2·8 months agoThey add referral codes to your sessions on Amazon and a like. This way all your purchases are feeding their ref accounts.
It’s not that bad practice if they’d do it as opt-in. I never consented to this and only figured out once when I looked at networking tab.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which program is the one that surprised you most that it is available on Linux?
11·8 months agoI use Edge on my Ubuntu setup. Tried all the browsers that integrate with KeepassXC and Edge won. It’s the only browser that has a nice UI with tabs on a sidebar, decent performance, nice devtools and is not doing shady shit like Vivaldi.

2·1 year agoAll Schengen countries are blood based citizenship, so no matter what’s the case in Turkey the kid got a mothers citizenship the moment it’s born.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Accidental birth in a non Schengen country. What next?
3·1 year agoEven in six months pregnancy it happens that people are born due to reasons. Also my wife was able to fly basically until the end. Doctor had nothing against, airline didn’t really care. It was all Schengen flights tho.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Accidental birth in a non Schengen country. What next?
4·1 year agoThat depends on a country. For Polish consulate it takes few days just to convert the local certificate to Polish one and get PESEL. Then and only then they order a passport that’s being printed in Poland.
Emergency passport would do here tho. Still I’d expect few days at minimum to talk to all those people.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Accidental birth in a non Schengen country. What next?
3·1 year agoThis is what I know for a regular residents outside their home country. Did exactly this with my son. And also know it took us months to get him a passport so we could travel abroad. Must be a nightmare to have prolonged vacation from a week to few months.

3·1 year agoSo you can cross the border with a proof of birth only? No special agreement with the inbound country?
Im a grown up, I have self preservation instincts. Only indexing opt in accounts and only for limited time so the angry mob won’t burn me.
I make one for web dev and mastodon.

51·1 year agoYeah. For major things. For trivial stuff like choosing lunch place people usually do public voting.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•28 settlements of the Kursk region are under the control of Ukranian forces - Governor of the Kursk region.
4·1 year agoThat’s not totally true. There were lists of local political elites to be killed in Ukraine once they establish control. And this is what happened in Bucha. They wanted to purge all Ukrainians who will have influence under occupation. Occupation that didn’t go according to the plan.

2·1 year agoIt had a major security problem in like 2010. Later everyone moved to git and CI/CD so nobody knows what happened after that.

I keep my drives encrypted with a key currently hosted in my router hoping they wouldn’t steal that. I’m thinking of actually putting it to cloud so I can disable it remotely.
It was quite a ride to make everything work and I made a blog post explaining it so I remember what I did.

So it was DNS?
Please make some firewall rules so it’s not available in Germany. Once the Germans will see this they will abandon all digitalization efforts and use this as a fax replacement everywhere over here.
