Linux@lemmy.ml•Daily driver work-from-home on Bazzite? Or something more mainstream (Debian?) and install Steam/proton?
1·6 months agoJust something to bear in mind regarding OneDrive; the unofficial clients don’t have access to certain APIs that the official clients use meaning that it only syncs every 5 minutes at best. As far as I know there’s nothing you can do about it.
Linux is way easier than it was even 10 years ago and many games run better on Linux than they do on Windows. There’s gaming distros but I’m not sure what the benefit is other than the built-in NVIDIA drivers. I just game on Fedora. You need to enable Proton stuff in the settings and you’re off.
I have done in the past but it’s not a common thing. It really something I did when I was a kid. In the last 10 years I’ve actually done a bit of sleepwalking. It only really happens when I’m drunk but it’s always been quite fun as I usually just hear the stories in the morning. I’m not just wandering around aimlessly, there’s usually some kind of logic going on. You know when you’re in a dream and you have some kind of weird backstory to what you’re doing but you don’t know how you know it, you just know. I’m kind of walking around slightly conscious of where I am but with some weird backstory. Most of the time I just think it’s daytime and I’m doing something, like going to work.

KDE@lemmy.kde.social•KDE is finally getting a native virtual machine manager called "Karton"

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Who needs stable, feature-rich desktops anyway
1·8 months agoI know about the themes but most of them look dated as well. I know I’m complaining about free software but it should look better out of the box. I know some people love customising but it shouldn’t be a requirement.

1·8 months agoI like GNOME but I think there’s essential functionality missing from it. Fortunately the extensions fill the gap.

1·8 months agoPlasma’s growing on my and I think it definitely works better on a laptop but I just wish it looked like a modern operating system. It feels like something from the 00s at best.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What corporation would you want gone COMPELTELY?
33·8 months agoI know everyone always says Nestlé in threads like this but what are they still doing? What damage would you save by getting rid of them?

Privacy@lemmy.world•Any recommendations for an alternative to the Windows clock app?English
6·8 months agoI searched it and found there were some cases of people being asked to login when they used the clock app but it appears to have been a bug.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I need to vent about Windows. I want workplaces to use Linux.
0·10 months agoI’m no Windows fanboy but I have to use it quite a lot, at home and at work. I don’t know what versions or settings you guys have set up but I’ve never had a Windows update I can’t postpone, ever.
Feddit.uk is good if you’re in the UK. Then you can switch to Local and see lots of UK stuff.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Spending on physical video game software in the US has been cut in more than half since 2021 and is now more than 85% below its 2008 peak.English
302·11 months agoEveryone’s in here acting like this is happening because they’re getting rid of shops. The shops wouldn’t be going anywhere if people were using them.
People use digital media because it’s so much more convenient. I’ve moved house three times in the past four years and it was so much easier just having to move my console rather than lug a bunch of games with it. Plus I can buy them while I’m sitting on my arse and I don’t have to go to a shop or wait until the next day for a delivery.
People are using digital media because it’s convenient, not because the shops are closing.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Former Arkane designer says Dishonored 2 cost more to make than Skyrim, and while it didn't meet Bethesda's sales expectations, the series' reputation still 'saved the studio'English
1410·11 months agoWas Dishonoured 2 any good? I finished the first one but it was really soured by the whole chaos system thing. I really didn’t like how I was supposed to play the game without killing anyone to get the good game. Playing the game without killing people is boring but the sad ending is so depressing it makes you feel like you failed.
Where do you live that you’re getting raided by the police? This sounds like one of those situations where they might use the wrench technique.
I don’t really see the point. If someone’s trying to access my data it’s most likely to be from kind of remote exploit so encryption won’t help me. If someone’s breaks into my house and steals my computer I doubt they’ll be clever enough to do anything with it. I guess there’s the chance that they might sell it online and it gets grabbed by someone who might do something, but most of my important stuff is protected with two factor authentication. It’s getting pretty far fetched that someone might be able to crack all my passwords and access things that way.
It’s far more likely that it’s me trying to recover data and I’ve forgotten my password for the drive.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What hardware and software do you use for home surveillance?English
1·1 year agoI’ve been trying to get Frigate working, on and off, for about eight months now. I’ve got a Debian server but it just won’t detect my Coral TPU inside my Podman container. Since you need such an old version of Python to test the TOU I can’t prove it’s working in the host so I don’t know if the problem’s with the drivers of either my container setup. I vowed to get it working over the Christmas break but it’s still not there.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Looks like Valve is preparing to release SteamOS to the public (or at least to third-party hardware manufacturers)
3·1 year agoI’m out of the loop and I don’t own a deck but didn’t Valve have a Linux OS years ago?
I use OneDrive. I know people will hate but it’s cheap and works on everything (well, it takes a third party tool on Linux). If I care about it it goes in OneDrive, otherwise I don’t need it that much.

Are you just looking for file backup? I haven’t used it but most people just seem to be switching to NextCloud.
