  • I broke my shoulder and couldn’t do shit for about 4 weeks. I spent that entire time playing Civ 6, freshly released at the time, with the steam controller. It was the best thing in the world for civ. I played that game with one hand 90% of the time since my shoulder would fight me after 5 minutes with 2 hands. And the steam controller made it possible in a way my Xbox controller never has and never will.

I lost it in my move 2 years ago and hope I find it again some day because I still run into games about once a month where I think this needs a steam controller. Like playing point and click adventures on the TV with my partner.

  • It seems as though you underestimate the appeal of billions of dollars. It’s not just the ability to never have to work again. Or power, prestige or any other nonsense. Or even just having tons of money. It’s not greed that makes it appealing.

It’s the security. The safety if knowing you’ll never have to worry about food or housing. That your parents and family will be well taken care of. Your children will be able to have it all, that you’ve set them up for success and they won’t have to struggle. It’s knowing that your best friend who was diagnosed with cancer will have the best care available, wherever that may be in the world, and won’t have to worry about food or housing or anything else while getting better.

You’re either too young to understand or are lacking in empathy.

I’m not saying being a billionaire isn’t inherently immoral. But the reason people take payouts like that are not solely down to greed.

  • Yeah, you’re right. I’m glad that they’re paid more and I’m glad tipping is still possible but it just seems super uncool to remove the prompt.

I had an argument with a coworker once about their second job. They said they blacklist people who don’t tip them for delivering pizza. I was surprised and asked them to explain and they said that most of their money came from tips. Without it they made state minimum wage and the job wasn’t worth it.

I said they should be paid better.

My coworker responded that they are paid better by people tipping and that’s why they blacklist people who don’t tip.

I followed it up by pushing the idea that the restaurant should be paying them more so that the job is worth it without tips. And well… The whole thing devolved for some reason and almost ended with me getting punched.

Either way I think you should be paid a living wage and have the ability to get tips for going above and beyond. Tipping shouldn’t be the norm/required but it should be available and it sounds like it is in this case just a bit more hidden.

  • I finally deleted Twitter from my phone a couple weeks ago.

I only used it for porn for the last 3 years and hadn’t been on in over a month but I saw an article on here and was curious. So I opened it up and looked to see how the porn situation was going. I was going to keep it around if I could find a bit of good porn. But I scrolled and scrolled down through my feed and I only had politics, bigots, ragebait, and hateporn. I hadn’t realized it had gotten so bad… I also have no idea where all my porn creators fled to.

Oh well, nothing of value was lost.

  • I have to admit, I’ve not seen the videos in question here but FriendlyJordies had been putting it videos talking about and exposing corruption in Australian and NSW governments. Even having his house fire bombed over exposing some of this corruption. I think I saw a video talking about this case from him and I have to admit I’ve never heard the term “wog” before and it doesn’t look or sound like much… But that’s part of the insidiousness of a slur. Jordies videos have targeted individual politician in the past and I believe this guy in particular because of their corrupt dealings and or ties to the mafia and or general anti-citizen/anti-poor policies.

From what I’ve seen of Jordies, I would assume he either believed that this politician way forfeited his right to feel bad about the names he’s called, kind of like Trump here in the States, or just didn’t understand how much emotional damage he was causing. I’m not saying this makes it right but there is likely more to the story than what has been brought up in the court case. I think Australia has some laws about speaking civilly about public figures and it looks like he ran afoul of those laws.

  • You are very correct, it’s the gun laws that are at issue. That’s not too say that or police don’t need to fuck off, but they are a result of the problems with our gun laws. It’s not even that most people are actually walking around armed, it’s that literally anyone could be armed.

Over here we have all heard stories of the calm, relaxed dad, mid 50s who coaches little league and is a nice guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Then he gets pulled over one day and calmly speaks to the police officer then calmly proceeds to shoot the officer dead and drive off.

You can then imagine any football fan with a small penis and an even smaller brain getting all pissed off because his team lost and going off to shoot the other team’s fans.

I could go on but the point is literally anyone could be armed and that’s bad for all of us, in many ways. Police are not the only people worried about pissing off the wrong person. Anyone can be armed. We get treated like a threat by police, well anyone can be armed.

I got into an argument in Australia when someone nearly hit me with their car and I was only worried about being punched. It would have hurt but it makes the confrontation feel less traumatic in my memory than any argument I’ve had back home. I’ve worried about dangerous situations when overseas, but overall I feel so much safer in other countries where I don’t have worry that I’ll get a gun pulled on me in traffic or at the grocery store or when interacting with police.
