Linux mint: ex windows guy? I take offence, I’m an ex-SuSE 4.2, ex-macOS, windows only at work guy. (My cinnamon is themed to have macOS ish appearance btw.) [and I lied, not ex-mac as such, I have a few macs round the house, and built my Linux machine to run games on steam/lutris, around a spare gfx card that came out of my classic Mac pro5,1]

Linux Mint has been the best choice of Linux for the past year and it has a great community and a lot more people to follow along on Linux and Windows platforms as it has been a long and difficult transition for Linux Mint to make

Bizarrely, for a very self positioned premium beer company, they made a very cool sharing of their recipes for home brewers, DIY DOG
I get this reference.

You don’t need an apple account to use a Mac. If you just want to enter a username and set a password, that’s all you need to do. If you want everything synced between another Mac or iPhone and so on, sign into iCloud. But you don’t HAVE to, just skip it.
SuSE linux 4.2 about 1994-6 ish? Fond memories of having to roll my own modelines to get crt monitors working. Used the various versions until the sell out to Novell and the controversy with Microsoft. Then a really big gap with some macs and now I’ve just started using Mint on a mini itx machine I’ve put together just for that use.

I found that all my keyboards didn’t have functional modifier keys while gaming, in wayland. Switched back to default cinnamon, and it all works fine again. Linuxmint

Did you build it yet? And how did it go? I’ve just built a fractal terra jade, with a nearly completely spare parts bin spec; Vega56 (ex-classic Mac Pro) i7 2600 (ex-iMac 2011) 2x4gb ddr3 ram (also ex cMP) 1tb SDD 500watt silverstone SFX-L (toight!)
Running Linux Mint 21.3 Have installed WoW via Steam compatibility mode, and playing all my steam catalogue as trials. Borderlands 2, Pre-sequel, wolfenstein old blood, and some GOG games. It’s actually very competent at 1080p and I’m not finding I’m having to turn much settings down to enjoy good frames.
Example; VORON project. 3DPrinters engineered and designed by the project team, contributed to by the community, they don’t sell a product, they share all the plans, BOM and instructions how to make your own 3D printers and even offer a ‘bootstrap’ scheme called ‘print it forward’ where you can pay costs only for parts that have to be printed for the build. VORON

That doesn’t sound like a bad thing tbh.
I’ve got an old vega56 in hand because I upgraded an old mac pro and I’m wondering whether I can build a usable Linux gaming rig with it.
From a well known tankie instance? No shocker there.

Got three macs and a pc, playstation and my work laptop is the only thing that has usb-c on it. But it’s off no interest when not working, I just can’t think why usb-c is so important to some people. It seems like if you had been upgrading constantly on android phones, there’s the driver. The only person I work with that keeps banging on about usb-c is the Android phone guy.

Still using an iPhone X and the only things in your list that interest me are faster charging and LiDAR. But nothing to do with portraits; I want it for 3D scanning objects for CAD models for 3D printing. But I’d use it maybe a few times a year.

Absolutely not. I don’t have a laptop, have a family group that have between us, iPhone X, XS, 11 and an old 7max. All chargers I have owned for the last 10 years are USB A at the charger. So the cable will be USB A to lightning for all the phones and to something else, like micro usb for other devices like a rechargeable bike light. USB C is just to cause e-waste and of no practical use.

Reading this on iPhone X

What’s that?
No, it’s true!
