While congrats are very much in order here, am I the only one cynically wondering if the word “Out” in the headline is doing a lot of heavy lifting?

She didn’t just win, she beat the speaker of the house in a single-party state whose politics is heavily influenced by knowing your place, waiting your turn, and not rocking the boat. Our incumbents are usually bulletproof. It’s a massively impressive victory even separate from making history as a first.

Also the first time a house speaker has been defeated in their primary in Hawaii history. Her opponent also outspent her 2:1, and had the backing of Senator Brian Schatz, the governor, lieutenant governor, and the mayor. Pretty incredible odds.
