Dear Americans, when figuring out which US poltician is considered a laughing stock in the rest of the world, check which one was enough of a clown to get a joke reply from the German government.

I wish Germany and France would invest in safer nuclear like thorium salt, or breeder reactors that take nuclear waste and turn it into electricity. Understandably the high pressure water reactors used to make fissile munitions aren’t the cure but there is so much better nuclear out there.

One more time, for those in the back:
New types of nuclear power can’t be developed and built fast enough to help prevent the climate catastrophy. We need to (and are on track to) be carbon neutral in 20 years.
Building new nuclear power plants is more expensive than any other form of energy.
They hamper building renewables because they can’t be switched off quickly, which means they don’t fit into the flexible energy infrastructure that is needed to use renewables.
They are unnecessary, Germany already replaced the power they supplied with renewables, and are continuing to reduce coal power.

Even if they are 100% safe, they’re obsolete already.

Unfortunately, a lot of people (not only on the right) still believe the myth about Germany shutting down nuclear power out of irrational fear and relacing it with coal.
