The article itself notes that the mothers were not given adequate time and given the complexity of having children who are legally US citizens, it can be readily argued that due process was denied in these cases:

If this gets to the courts and they determine that this was done illegally (which as far as I can tell it was), then I expect the Trump administration to refuse to do anything about it, just like they’re doing with Garcia.

Dr. Edwards should lose his medical licence and be banned from working with children forever. How sociopathic do you have to be to be working whilst knowing you are carrying one of the most infectious diseases in existence? This is utterly inexcusable, especially since he is supposedly a qualified doctor and should be well aware of the danger he is putting his patients in.

His efforts were only a dismal failure if the original intention was to improve government functioning whilst lowering costs.

On the other hand, if it was to gut the government and funnel money to Musk and co, then it’s been a roaring success.

It should be blatantly obvious to anyone paying attention that the “Department of Government Efficiency” isn’t really about efficiency.

Unfortunately the right seems to be much better at propaganda (on a number of levels) and I suspect people who are struggling with any of those problems - mental health, physical health, financial, etc. - are more vulnerable to it. Even worse is that it may be too painful for them to accept that they were wrong about something important (e.g. supporting Trump and co) and the internal conflict would likely worsen their mental health.

About the only thing Google is right to be concerned about here is the timeline to enforce these changes - requiring them to be implemented within a couple of weeks does indeed pose a risk that something will go wrong or be missed (causing vulnerabilities). Other than that, I look forward to Google being forced to allow competition.

To those that arrive here from any Youtube or Twitter posts, please know that disabling Recall via DISM works fine, and preserves the modern File Explorer (though some might consider this an anti-feature). CBS correctly disables it, and the disablement is preserved through reboots, just like with any other feature.

So years of breaking the rules and already having received a caution from the dean and effectively all she gets a slap on the wrist - a year off at half pay. She should have been fired.

This is one case where I think Windows is appropriately designed for its target audience.

Unfortunately most of the world isn’t even taking it seriously anymore. People treat it like it’s a mild flu or common cold.

The virus is still producing waves of infection consistent with the pandemic phase of spread rather than the endemic phase and has not moved into a seasonal pattern like the flu or colds. It’s just not publicised in the media. Scientific studies show that Omicron was just as lethal as the original Wuhan strain and the current Omicron subvariants are similar - the virus has not actually gotten less severe as hoped (and in the case of Delta, it actually got more severe; thankfully that lineage did not give rise to the variants we now face).

The only difference between 2020 and now is that we have vaccines, but people need to keep up to date with the boosters. The efficacy of vaccines to prevent severe illness and hospitalisation wanes quickly, with a recent study showing it can be as low as 50% after four months.

We also know that the risk of long COVID is cumulative - i.e. it goes up with each infection and the increase in likelihood depends on whether you’re up-to-date with the vaccine (having the most recent booster roughly halves the increase in risk from an infection). A recent study estimated that 400 million people now suffer from long COVID at an annual cost of $1 trillion to the global economy. This will only continue to get worse if people continue to catch COVID every year or two.

Not surprising to me. Politicians everywhere want COVID to be over, but it isn’t.

I’m not even American and I’m keen to see what the debate will be like. I seriously doubt Trump has enough self-control to stop himself lashing out at Harris, let alone the presence of mind to listen to his advisers!

The crew should come back on the Dragon and Boeing be required to solve the problems and carry out another test flight. It is unacceptable that Boeing wants to bring the astronauts back without understanding some of the failures on the Starliner.
