Plasma kept crashing my system after waking it up from suspend. I tried fresh installs twice, with different revisions of graphics drivers. Plus, I had to install a bunch of crap from github just for my games to work properly. Lighting issues, texture issues. The mouse wouldn’t stay captured to one monitor in Fallout 4. Mint with Cinnamon just worked out of the box for me.

Fair points. Controllers work in big picture mode, but I get what you’re saying. But on the other hand, the Steamdeck and Proton have done a lot for making Linux gaming more accessible.

Mint was so easy to install. I’m pretty new to Linux. Not afraid of having to do things in the terminal, but I don’t really know many commands yet. So, I appreciate the graphical managers for updates and drivers. You can definitely tell they really worked to make a polished OS. And I really like Cinnamon. It’s a very clean looking DE that has been super easy to transition to from Windows.

Unlike Kubuntu, I didn’t have to do any tricks or install anything from github to get stuff from my Steam library to work, everything just worked. And Kubuntu (or perhaps just Wayland) would crash upon waking my PC from sleep and wouldn’t recover.

That was my thoughts, too. So, now I’m running Mint on my gaming PC and the one hooked up in my living room for streaming. I tried Kubuntu, and liked it, but KDE Wayland was giving me issues. Installing a different desktop environment just introduced more problems, so I went with a different distro with the DE I wanted, which was Mint with Cinnamon. Now, life is good.

Oh man, I really enjoyed Battlefield Earth. And the movie. What turned you off?

My wife and I have our own. We use hers for the kid and mine for the dog. So, hers is beauty gurus and baby shark, and mine is Sarah Boone coverage, old computers, and 10 hour videos of squirrels.

We used to have huge crowds, I’ve been there. I’ve campaigned with them. Huge crowds. We filled the National Mall. Millions of people. You should have seen them. I’ve spoken to them. Now, they’re all gone. Where are they, I don’t know. They were huge. Now they’re so small. You should see them now. Wow. What a small crowd.

Yeah, she definitely crossed the line that time. It was probably the most mad I have ever seen her. I can’t remember if that was also when she slapped me, or if that was something else. But really, those were the worst instances and the other 98% of my childhood was very good. And we really do have a very good relationship today. I don’t think I deserved it, or any child would deserve that. My schooling was just a hotbutton issue for her, and I pushed it really hard that time.

My mom was very strict with me as a child, but I don’t think it was narcissistic. She was very focused on my education. I had to do well and get a good job. But it was because she wanted me to have good health insurance as I have had chronic health issues from birth. I have a good job now, my student loans are paid off, and she was right about me needing good health insurance. Our relationship is lovely now. But I’ll probably always remember the time that I skipped a homework assignment and she spit in my face.
