That one I think is more “the people in charge figured they would all be dead before it became a problem”
I fully expect that if the cure for aging was discovered, billionaires would suddenly care a LOT more about climate change.
Senior Chief Petty Officer. Starfleet is in my blood, and I’ve spent my entire adult life in service to boldly going.
Keiko and Molly are my favorite humans, but Transporter Room 3 will always be my favorite.
Just don’t ask who what’s in the pattern buffer.
That one I think is more “the people in charge figured they would all be dead before it became a problem”
I fully expect that if the cure for aging was discovered, billionaires would suddenly care a LOT more about climate change.
It’s become very clear over the last 20 years that most people in charge all just assumed everything would continue to coast, the status quo would never change, and have absolutely no idea what to do when someone grabs the steering wheel and jerks it into the oncoming lanes.
Not once in my enlistment, such as it was, did I question what was in the pants of fellow service members.
Nor did I question their capabilities when they were needed.
Because I’m not an insecure idiot with the maturity of a child.
“Well the guy is pouring gasoline everywhere and kept playing with his zippo lighter screaming about how he’s burning my house down, I have to go talk to him if I want to push back on his plan”

Uhhhhhh you should probably at least drain out the placenta fluid…
They’d rather look even more incompetent with classified info than just admit whatever the real reason is or make up something fake to cover.
Every time something major breaks and it seems like everyone involved is extremely incompetent, this is what I assume.
They knew exactly what they were doing. It was intentional from start to finish. They just don’t want to admit that, because then they would have to admit the real reason, and that thought terrifies them.
Not programming, but in the same vein, A Trek Bicycle store manager asked me in an interview if I would be willing to work a trial shift the next day building bicycles. Unpaid, of course. Just to see if I was a good fit.
Of course, since I was used to building 50 a day, I would have gotten all of them done in a single shift whereas they were needing to call in stores from surrounding areas to come help in a few days.
I laughed and said if they needed help tomorrow I would be happy to work for my usual fee of $20/bike.
Oddly, I did not get the job
Hey, so all the people who told me they need their guns “to fight tyranny”… They’re gearing up, right?
I’ve had more conversations than I can count with people I would never be able to talk to in person, all using our own native languages.
The original posts are in English, people comment in their native language, and I use a translator, then respond in my own language. Is the translator perfect? No! Neither is theirs.
With the way most translators I’ve used work, it’s easier for the non-native speaker to try translating, since the translator might try and use different words that entirely change the meaning, but likely list possible alternatives. A native e speaker will understand the alternatives while a non-native speaker probably won’t.
That’s my thought process anyway.
Never had anyone who wasn’t pearl-clutching or virtue-signaling complain about it. And I’ve had tons of conversations with people I’d never have talked to otherwise.
I love when people say they feel dumb because they didn’t know something, because then I get to share xkcd with them, too.
I have noticed that I get less motion sick in some games on my new 240hz screen, but unfortunately I still get it.
That said, I’m unsure what my actual fps is in Doom/E but I’d wager somewhere around 100.
Checking FOV and disabling motion blur, chromatic abberation, and DoF are my first things before I even start a new game.
I just assume it’s because I’m getting older, and I’m not sitting in a proper chair most of the time.
Okay I have a confession to make…
I haven’t finished a Doom since Doom 3 (2004).
I have loved every minute of Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, but I haven’t finished either of them.
I get too motion sick to play video games like that anymore.
Even Titanfall I have to take a break between levels.
I’ll finish them someday, I promise…
Prey was the first game in a long time to make me stop and go “what the fuuuuuuuck?” in a long time.
It’s a good feeling.
I’d absolutely love to know where the team expected to take the story after the ending(s) if they made a direct sequel.
More like Prey, for sure.
I thought that was the expectation?
They introduced us to a younger Witcher that the Geralt was training, Geralt’s story came to an end…
It felt like that’s what they were intentionally setting up, a totally Ciri-focused next game.

Absolutely can’t stand watching people play video games. They play wrong.
And the only videos I watch of a game are ones to see what kind of game it is when I don’t know too much beyond word of mouth “this game is great” kind of thing. Sure, you’ve described the game as an action-packed romp with tons of weapons and semi-open world, but the video shows it’s a 2d side scroller with variations of the same 5 pixel “guns” that all shoot the same ball. Not interested.
Beyond that, I have no interest in watching videos. And if companies started trying to somehow cram even more ads into their games to advertise to people watching a stream then I’m even less in than before
I mean, it would have been nice if the game had been finished when it came out…
But hey, they’ve fixed nearly every problem I had with the game on launch. Which is infinitely more than most of the companies who release shitty broken games.
Being a first time, or even just smaller developer is a nightmare when you compare it against large companies.
You basically don’t have a chance if you try to carry your dream yourself, because you lack funding. But getting in bed with larger companies for funding and marketing puts an insane amount of pressure to perform well or go under.
I can totally understand why so many things were over-promised. I can’t excuse what we got on release, but I do understand why he lied, even in the weeks leading up to release where everyone who plays immediately knows what’s bullshit.
And to be honest, I would likely do the same in some situations.
Like the multi-player aspect where supposedly you would be able to see each other in-game. They really thought with the size of the procedural generation it would take a lot longer for people to meet, even if they were trying to meet up. Unfortunately they forgot to take statistics and probability into account. With the large amounts of people playing, two were bound to end up close enough to meet in the finest few days.
I think they really thought they’d have time to fix it before anyone met.
You’ll say anything when it’s your future, and the futures of all the people you work with, on the line.
I don’t see why the US should be informed?
There shouldn’t be any US equipment in the area, why bother including anyone who doesn’t need to know?
