Downvote me if you must, but idiots like this won’t internalise the lesson until their parents, partners, sons, and daughters die in ICE custody.
The same way that the vaccine conspiracists won’t learn until they watch their unvaccinated child shrivel and perish from a horrific and completely preventable disease.
The memory of the suffering has to live on in people’s minds by having permanent consequences etched in the blood of unfortunate innocents as APPARENTLY we’re on average to fucking dumb as a species to remember otherwise!
Whoops, spelling mistake, thanks for pointing that out.
As another outside observer I’d disagree that was the reason she lost. Yeah there’s racism and sexism issues in the US, but in the last US election both AOC and Bernie got a lot of votes to elect them as senators on the senator ballot from people who also voted Trump on the presidential ballot.
AOC and Bernie did some polls on social media asking these people why they voted for both them and Trump. The responses were typically like “you’re not part of the political elite” and “you say it how it is” and “you seem like you genuinely care about Americans”.
IMO, Kamala is considered too close to the democratic political establishment and that the American public is desperately craving some more (mostly economically) progressive politics which AOC and Bernie have been talking about for years.
If the DNC run Kamala in 2028 then the Trump administration will project it as “Biden, Harris, and the elites want to be president forever, so why not pick me instead”.
As an engineer: 1000% agree.
Seriously, why do I have to pay a value somewhere close to £1000 for a set of FUCKING PDFs?!?
This is ridiculous. Make money from audits, certifications, training, and conferences. You can still make absolute stacks from those. Why the fuck do I or my company need to shell out thousands just so we know what to certify against to be able to sell stuff?!
It’s a fucking racquet and they know it. But it’s either one of 3 options:
Find someone who’s willing to send you the PDF or log in credentials for a library service that has access to these standards.
Take the risk downloading PDFs from dodgy sites you found on the 5th page of duckduckgo.
Bend over and spread open your wallet. Because good luck getting anything delivered to a customer without it.
It’s not the quickest though. ROI timeline is 18 years minimum for tax from non-degree level jobs, 22/23 years for degree level, and 26 to 30 years for post doctoral.
It’s sad. The quarterly pressure to generate value is one of the worst economic forces of capitalism which drives enshitification, job-instability from the “fire bottom performing 10%” so that you can post more “profits” from cost cutting, and the general short-term thinking that pervades all aspects of the culture.
It’s the reason “nobody” builds things to last or metaphorically plants something now for the future: it’s not profitable quick enough.
Say what? Bacon reader still works?!
So Hbomberguy video when?
Edit: I look forward to it being 16 hours long and booking a day off work to sit through it.
So good trend or bad trend?
I can’t read the article, does anyone have an archive link?
You Linux users sure are a contentious people.
This is true, but from the tone of the article it seemed more like “America, don’t repeat my dad’s mistakes.”
She even says in the article she could rail against her father’s actions for many many pages but that’s not the point she’s trying to make with the article.
Sad trombone noises.
MATLAB: And I took that personally.
You know what, fuck it I’ll say it, the bullet missed because it knew it was too good for him.
Oh ducking hell, not again!
Thanks for spotting the typo, even I as an engineer and technical writer runs afoul of autocorrect 😂
It’s a real shame that Putin’s stupid and failed road trip is impeding a country with a long and decorated history in partical particle physics from contributing to the scientific community.
Russians please don’t lie down and accept this, get that twat thrown out of the top floor of the Kremlin.
Again I agree, and I don’t think NATO should withhold or restrict aid and training if Ukraine don’t issue a statement.
And I agree that looking back over targets hit between Ukraine and Russia it is clear as day that Ukraine IS holding to the high standard in place by NATO members and is targeting only military targets.
The issue is that in the political sphere Russia and their useful idiots and apologists only need one example to try and smear the story into false “well both sides did it” narrative which you then have to pull out the long list and start going through it i.e. it takes more time to disprove a lie than to say it.
If, as it is most likely the case, Ukraine accidentally hit a random tower block then said “whoops, missed the target there, but shit happens in war, it was a guidance failure / got shot down by air defence and crashed / whatever” it provides a quick response to the story the Kremlin will try and spin out of it add to the list of examples you gave how Ukraine treats civilians vastly better than Russia.
I don’t see the downside of doing this. The Kremlin wouldn’t know how to respond.
Counter point: KiCAD
Yes I know it’s schematic capture and PCB layout, but I’m giving it as an example for two reasons:
The UX is genuinely really good and easy to use even for a novice following YouTube tutorials because it follows the norms of a schematic/PCB software package you’d expect to pay for (OrCAD, Altium, etc.)
It’s open source and used in industry so GIMP and Inkscape have ZERO excuses for their horrific UX which is the prime reason industry professionals don’t want to spend an age re-learning all of their workflows.
There I said it, I’ll get down off this soapbox now.
