What? No. All our (Canadian) fascists are gonna separate and join the US. Then we’ll be a fascist-free country!
I’ve tried. It breaks my brain too much. I’ve even used emacs without evil but the unholy combination just does not work for me.
I have the same problem with all vi/vim emulation modes in other editors. There’s always some incongruity that messes me up.
I prefer to call it the dark side!
I don’t really recommend people learn vi/vim even though I’ve been using it for years and love it. It’s a very personal thing and the time you invest into learning it might not be worth it if you don’t use its features enough.
I think it’s dependent on your personality and neurodivergence/neurotypical characteristics (I don’t know a word that encompasses all of this). If you’re the type of person who gets really annoyed/distracted by any sort of “friction” in the editing process then I think you may be a good candidate to learn vi. Otherwise probably not!
Edit: by the way I’m also a LaTeX user!
Yeah. A lot of people who use vim don’t know how to use the full power of vi. They’ll often install plugins to do things they could have easily done with built in features!
The one area where regular vi sucks though is undo. If you want multiple undo then you’ll have to at least go with something like nvi.
Admittedly it’s very difficult if you want to maintain consistency but the benefits are enormous!
Persist everything to disk in real time. When the signal hits exit immediately.
You can fault the Right for a lot of things but they got there first on this one. They have a story for why things suck and they’re pounding the drum on it relentlessly. It doesn’t matter that this story is full of holes when the alternative is not compelling.
That’s not what determines whether a country is a 2 party system or a multi party system. There are plenty of countries that have small parties which have never formed government themselves but nevertheless have held real power in coalitions or minority parliaments.
Canada’s public health care system was created by Tommy Douglas, an NDP MP and party leader. If Canada were strictly a two party system like the US then that would never have happened.
Not Canada. The NDP is more than just a spoiler. They hold the balance of power right now!
Whoever said anything about that? You can make positive changes, just don’t expect them to be permanent. Nothing is permanent. That’s life! Eventually we all die.
It’s a Red Queen’s Race.
Well, in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, “you’d generally get to somewhere else—if you run very fast for a long time, as we’ve been doing.”
“A slow sort of country!” said the Queen. “Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”
They’re actually going after all of them at the same time. They’re just at different stages in each case.
In the long term, no. It’s a temporary measure. It’s like fighting against entropy.
Ahhhh this is an absolute tragedy. The same thing goes with many movies from the golden age of Hollywood. I love to watch these old films. It breaks my heart that so many are lost forever.
I’ve looked around quite a bit for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. No one seems to have the complete series. The show ran nightly for 30 years and amassed 6714 episodes so it would be quite a large torrent.
It was a casual remark, not a hill to die on. That’s entirely your read!
Floor to ceiling stalls are much harder to clean. The gaps underneath allow for water to drain out when washing everything.
Or maybe they could convince Trump that supporting Ukraine is good for them; good for a lot of American weapons factory workers.
