Are they chewy or crunchy?

You thinking Fox or our America news?

I don’t disagree with improving mental health care, but holy shit does the line “let them breed” make me uncomfortable. In an ideal world, they could get support to the level which is needed and could live fulfilling lives which may or may not involve children. In this world, I still don’t want to sterilize anyone just because of their mental health (I’d extend that more broadly, but I could see the case for voluntary chemical castration in response to some limited number of crimes).
I don’t know if that’s actually what you meant or if you meant it more like “let the problem get worse,” though.

Ooh, thank you! I may wish she were further left, but I don’t doubt that she earnestly believes in the views she says she holds, which was what I was wondering.

That’s part of why I’m asking- the vast majority of leftists I know grew up in right wing or centrist circles and moved left on their own, but I don’t know if there are politicians who really reflect that.
Actually, Graham Platner is very relevant and I’m interested in whether people trust him enough to elect him and whether he stays true to the principles he ran on.

Don’t worry, that’s not why I’m asking. No, she’s a rat forever.
I just wonder if it’s always in this direction. My suspicion is that it tends to flow from more discerning parties to less discerning parties, and in the US right now, the republicans are the least discerning of the national parties. I could see people moving from actual leftist parties to the greens (in the places where the greens are either liberal or controlled opposition) in other countries, I’m not sure if they’re leftist in some countries), but that’s still a rightward move.

Li previously ran as a Democratic candidate for Congress, describing herself as a “tree-hugging progressive,” and sought the endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America. She lost her Congressional bid, and years later, shifted to the Republican Party and to becoming a strong supporter of Trump.
Does anyone know of any examples of politicians swinging hard in the opposite direction? I’m not talking about things like the Lincoln project or changes made up to age 25 or so, but actual significant leftward movement from adult politicians.
Why not just make a poll if you don’t want discussion?
Tbh, a full moon means a lot of increased predatory activity, I wouldn’t be surprised if we subconsciously become more anxious and rash, and I wouldn’t consider that any more supernatural than the tides (provided there’s actually at some point a link discovered).

The caller also expressed concern about undocumented immigrants.
“When you let millions of undocumented people who we don’t even know who are living next to us,” she opined. “I have about seven neighbors in a one-block neighborhood that are here illegally. I love them. The ones that are in my neighborhood are great.”
It’s not that I thought she’d be a paragon of logic based on the rest of the story, but it’s like she only has the first half of each thought.

Someone else already mentioned that it’s more than half the current budget for feeding students so that could be expanded by a lot, but it’s easily enough for schools to hire a part time therapist or nurse or to get new textbooks for a subject or two.

Holy shit. I never realized that this could actually bother people. I thought the jokes about it were based in the same place that jokes about popped collars are.

The white man’s burden is also used referentially to call out people who do things like travel to poor countries to build houses even though they have far less building experience than locals and the money they paid to get there would have gone much further, had it simply been donated in the form of building materials.
I don’t know how RFK Jr. is using it, but it almost certainly makes no sense.
Edit: oh, voluntourism! I knew there was a term for it

Sounds like it’s universal advice for your goal qualities. I’ve been told multiple times by many different people to aim to be the least intelligent or skilled person in the room, so I can learn better.
It’s sad that these people who aren’t desperate or in need just want money enough for wealth to be their most desired quality.

I don’t normally pick on people’s grammar, but I’m a little surprised that the Independent’s headline says “which” and not “whom.”

I mean, in an ideal world, lots of things wouldn’t exist, but we don’t live in an ideal world and there are hungry people in every country, even those with robust food support systems. I live in Germany, where there is a lot of aid for those who are hungry and, whether it’s due to untreated mental health issues (including addiction) or something else, there are plenty of hungry people.

Of course ethical shoplifting exists: stealing bread to feed a starving person or medication to help a sick one, etc.

WOW. He just wears the uniform and marches to the beat because he might be persecuted otherwise. It’s totally different, even though it’s only noticeable if you can literally read his mind. Next you’ll say those nine people sitting at a table with a nazi are nazis.
