I understand how it happens and I agree that the people making and spreading the propaganda deserve more of the blame than those consuming it. However, I don’t think the consumers get a free pass. We (including myself because I understand that I am not immune to propaganda) all have the responsibility to view information critically and not let our biases and our environments distort our view of reality. In the cases where I fail to do so I am ultimately to blame for that. The same is true for all of us. Blaming manipulators lets people avoid taking responsibility for allowing themselves to be manipulated and that is not going to help us solve this problem.
Sure, but that view makes it sound like they are helpless victims in all this. They have access to the internet just like we do. They fall for the propaganda despite all evidence to the contrary and I only see two possibilities that can explain that; they are stupid or they want all that hateful stuff to be true so badly that they choose to shut out everything else. Neither explanation makes them anything other than shitty, selfish people.

What are you scared of? There’s more of us than there are of them. Hiding in the shadows, too afraid to act is how they win. Be loud and deliberate in voicing your opposition. If they’re coming for you anyway you may as well face it head on.

I don’t have time to read this currently but I will try to later. In the meantime, does anyone know how they are coercing access to these devices? I’ve done a fair amount of international travel and no one has ever asked about any of my devices, much less attempted to gain access to them. It’s my understanding that if you refuse them there’s no legal reason they could refuse you entry.
Obviously, legality is of less concern to this administration but these people should have legal recourse, at least until the facade of civility is completely cast aside.

It’s not their fault in the sense that Harris was a bad candidate or Biden was a bad president compared to his peers. They were both fine but they largely stuck to early 2000s platforms (or at least could not overcome that perception) and people clearly want something different. Many can tell that the trajectory of the past isn’t going to work out for them. Trump isn’t a good response to that but Democrats are perceived to be categorically opposed to acknowledging the sentiment and adjusting course. It’s not exactly rational but it is understandable that people in a bad spot aren’t particularly concerned about things getting worse because from their perspective things are already pretty bad.
But not the 73 million people that wanted this explicitly?
Isn’t the max political donation supposed to be like $1300? I’m not looking to start a discussion about the specific loopholes they’re using to skirt that rule. I’m confident that would only be depressing. I just find it insane that it’s clear enough what is happening that a headline like this can be written without being cause for either a libel suit against the author or criminal campaign finance charges being brought against this billionaire. We’re all just like “yep, that’s where we are now”.
What mistake would he need to be concerned about? Jerry has more money than he can spend. I seriously doubt his income is a motivating factor here but I could be wrong.
People are too sensitive these days though. The problem is that no one agrees what it’s important to be sensitive about while simultaneously looking for reasons to be offended on behalf of others.
What are the solutions though? I don’t think this descent stops until the MAGA crowd gets most of what they want and realize it sucks ass to live that way which is going to come with a lot of pain for everyone. They’re clearly not willing or able to learn from history, think through policies without experiencing the negative consequences personally, or distinguish reality from propaganda and/or wishful thinking. What options for resolution does that leave us with?
The only thing I can see that might work is fighting them off until enough of the old folks in their camp die and hoping the younger crowd doesn’t follow in their footsteps. That’s not a particularly appealing plan but I’m not sure what else is on the table.
Who’s going to buy the $80 million houses if all the billionaires move out of the country? Think of all those sad real estate agents endlessly serving little sandwiches at open houses.
This kind of thing doesn’t normally bother me but I’m really upset by the fact that every one of those picture frames is crooked.
None of that is true in any way. They are a relevant, useful, very much still in use, tool for conservatives to undermine democracy. I don’t understand why you chose a single one of those descriptors.
