I followed a similar path. When I was on Gnome I hated plasma. When Gnome 3 dropped I tried a bunch of stuff like Cinnamon, Budgie, Xfce, Lxde, etc. and settled on Plasma which has only continued to be great over the hears. I value the tweaks and the fact that it can be configured 100% desktop centric without a bunch of touch/convergence stuff getting in the way.

I’ve been a Linux user since 2005ish and a DJ since at least 2013. I’ve tried a lot of music players including Rythmbox. I settled on Clementine/Strawberry or Amorok, depending on use case. Haven’t used either of them recently.

With that said, there is no right answer. Find one you like!

1. I’ve been looking at the Flint. If it works with our Fiber, that’s probably the one I should go with. Pardon me if I sound like a networking noob for this question, but since this isn’t one of those mesh systems like the eeros, how can I cover far away or otherwise low-signal rooms? Can I just use another router as long as it has an access point mode, or will I run into bottlenecks doing something like that.

I appreciate you sharing your experience as I like the interface on the Slate but it doesn’t have wifi and I don’t think it has enough throughput to handle all the traffic. Review sites, with a few exceptions, don’t help me with anything except wasting my time doom scrolling without learning anything.

Good recommendation. I gave it a whirl and it works well. Occasionally I’m getting a field that won’t fill, but that could be a bug on the web unless it repeats more. I mistyped a lot with some of the other alternative keyboards due to weird spacing, but Heli seems to have a lot customization options. I’ll keep test driving this one for a bit.

I agree with you the vast majority of the time, though I suppose my situation is uncommon. My neighbors and I talk and regularly shovel each others sidewalks if we’re the first outside in the morning. Having said that, some people are unwilling to live in a society. I regularly have a visitor I don’t like or trust. This person should not be left alone with a potted plant. Having said that, this person has a reason to be at my house and I can’t do anything about it except make it clear that they are being watched and better be on their best behavior.

Random side-note: I used to think my grandmother’s Euro doorbell with the speakerphone and the door buzzer was the pinnacle of future technology!

I didn’t realize they had it as a webpage. We were already well into the app-era when I gave in and signed up for Uber. If the webpage works, that’s all I need for those one-offs when I couldn’t avoid using Uber. One app gone is even better than one app replaced!

I’ve been doing the same. It makes traveling easier too. It costs way less to get a local sim for an unlocked phone you own than to pay the carrier to allow you to use a locked phone overseas.

At home, MVNOs, for me, were basically what the rest of the world had. The big carriers kept pushing phones, the MVNOs were simpler, quicker, and less scammy. Eventually I found a non-MVNO T-Mobile prepaid plan that gave me unlimited SMS, 100min. Talk, and 5-6GB data (which they deceptively call unlimited 👎, but was more than enough for me)

The site run by the greedy little pigboy used to have a “nocontract” community for discussing the best plans, they had a big google sheet and lots of research, but it seems someone infiltrated it because they no longer list the best deals.

Yep, I got a very basic trim 2010-2015 car. I think it’s about as new as you can get without really bad enshitification. The upper trims even had some of the gimmicks and techy stuff. I loath to think if the day this car dies. I may only ride my bike from that point on.

When the UI crashes, it sometimes throws up a dialog with “copy URL to crash log”. I just cut and pasted from there.

I have seen many run it as an ATM transaction rounded to the nearest dollar and refund the change in cash. I saw this in two states.

Having said that. I love cash only businesses. Visa and the other CC companies have way too much power. We should all go back to cash tomorrow, but we won’t.

I ran a business, not weed related, that was cash only for the better part of 5 years. When I started taking cards I made sure cash and bitcoin were also options. The only downside was going to the bank every week to grab stacks of small bills for change. The upside was never having to deal with credit cards and every payment settling instantly when the cash changed hands. Under $100, cash is king.
