  • I’ve dislocated my shoulder fourteen times, mostly in an innovative way each time.

Once, a friend invited me to play catch with a group. I came along for the socialization, but warned that if I threw anything that I would dislocate my shoulder and have to go to the hospital. He scoffed and said it wouldn’t happen. Somehow he convinced me it wouldn’t, so I threw the ball once, then immediately had to go to the hospital, as I had dislocated my shoulder.

Another time, my dad had to take me to the hospital, as I had been laying in bed and attempted to turn over, dislocating my shoulder.

  • Over the last ten - fifteen years, I’ve written lots of scripts for production in bash. They’ve all served their purposes (after thorough testing) and not failed. Pretty sure one of my oldest (and biggest) is called temporary_fixes.sh and is still in use today. Another one (admittedly not in production) was partially responsible for getting me my current job, I guess because the interviewers wanted to see what kind of person would solve a coding challenge in bash.

However, I would generally agree that - while bash is good for many things and perhaps even “good enough” - any moderately complex problem is probably better solved using a different language.

  • I had this issue when I got my wife a “remarkable” tablet. Apparently the early gens were well known for getting the power button stuck and for being glued together and thus difficult to disassemble.

I bought an iFixit kit and got it apart and the power button unstuck, but I never got the tablet back together.

The common suggestion for that particular tablet was to use a Dremel to widen the power button slot and liberate the button.

    edit: Added the word “difficult.”
