I’m not smart enough to be a nerd.
Couldn’t organise a root in a brothel
I used to like Ubuntu LTS because it was just Debian that wasn’t quite as out of date, but more recent installs seem to suggest that you only get all the patches if you subscribe to their paid service? Not sure what the fine print is on that.
This box was turned on, Nextcloud installed, and never touched since (side from apt updates).

I love how Whirlpool has stuck to it’s guns with regards to staying text only.
It survived a world of phpbb, avatars, and animated GIFS and is now surviving a world of social media and “engagement”. It’s like Usenet with moderation and no binaries.
Helps that it’s fast as blazes too.
Yes but I can’t search by the name of the attachment.
I just searched for text thats in an attachment filename and it worked - with a caveat. I have a filename called “PMASUP236 - Operate Vehicles In The Field.pdf” on an email. There is no reference to the PMASUP236 in any other part of any email.
If I search “PMASUP236”, it returns the email as a result.
If I search “SUP236” it does not.
If I search “Operate Vehicles” it returns that email (along with a heap of others containing the word “Operate” and “Vehicles” in any order).
Admittedly this is on Windows at work, though I do run Thunderbird on Linux at home. Will have to try it there to confirm.
Totally agree.
I don’t even bother clicking on video links on random instances. Most are broken, and the rest are incredibly slow.
I’ve been using FX File Explorer since 2012. It’s straight up the best file manager on Android, especially when you use SMB and SFTP. Multi window makes moving things around easy as, and the built in text editor works a treat. Being able to share images from apps to FX’s “Save As” option is awesome to. It means every app can save where you want.
No idea why it isn’t more popular compared to the alternatives.
I bought this game in July 2023 for some reason, and have 60ish hours in it.
I randomly fire it up every so often because it’s quick to load, quick to get in to action and actually playing, and most importantly it’s fun - you know, what games are meant to be!
Vampire Survivors is the other time sink in this genre. Unfortunately I have that on PC and mobile. That’s bad for productivity.
I love that this post was like four rows below this one on my front page:
I use hysteresis daily… Refrigeration.
Later, the name hashtags, in American English this symbol #️⃣ was
alwaysbest known as the pound key. It was also known as an Octothorpe.
The first time I learned of its American naming was the classic “pound quake 3 arena” audio clip from the #quake3arena IRC channel.
“Uhhhhhh pound quake 3 arena”
“… What the hell was that?”
… And my axe!
Edit: I said the funny line, updoots to the just please
I prefer to argue on the internet via my phone, which I can type pretty fast on thanks to the swipe to type
I’m the opposite… I rarely reply when I’m on my phone because swiping and tapping away at the touchscreen keyboard is so slow and inaccurate. I spend more time correcting swypos than I do writing I think.
Meanwhile on the desktop I can punch out a shining example of wit (or at least a spoonerism of that) at 100+ wpm at 100% accuracy.
Sent from my phone, slowly.
Pretty much never. Direct family only really.
Talking is for IRL, or actually urgent things. Everything else is a message or email.
Don’t ring me to discuss an email.
After reading the site, I’m still not entirely sure how to use it.
Is there a decent demo site somewhere? The examples they show are very simplistic
I can’t set a reminder.
I said “Hey Google, set a reminder to feed the dog at 9am tomorrow” and it seems to work fine?
The one in my hand with a silicon case feels fine. Camera bump is only obnoxiously noticeable when it’s naked.
On the plus side, the more people who don’t use password managers the more chance us password manager users will remain not worth the effort.
It’s kinda like security through obscurity mixed with only having to be faster than the slowest person to outrun a lion.
